for World History World History, 1500 to the Present These standards enable students to examine history and geography from 1500 A.D. (C.E.) to the present, with emphasis on development of the modern world. Geographic influences on history will continue to be explored, but increasing attention will be given to political boundaries that developed with the evolution of nations. Significant attention will be given to the ways in which scientific and technological revolutions created new economic conditions that in turn produced social and political changes. Noteworthy people and events of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries will be emphasized for their strong connections to contemporary issues. Although the study of history rests on knowledge of dates, names, places, events, and ideas, historical understanding requires students to engage in historical thinking, raise questions, and marshal evidence in support of their answers. Students engaged in historical thinking draw upon chronological thinking, historical comprehension, historical analysis and interpretation, historical research, and decision making. Students will apply these social science skills to engage in their exploration of the global challenges of the twenty- first century. Skills WHII.1 The student will demonstrate skills for historical thinking, geographical analysis, economic decision making, and responsible citizenship by a) synthesizing evidence from artifacts and primary and secondary sources to obtain information about events and life in world history; b) using geographic information to determine patterns and trends in world Primary Sources are embedded within the text (examples): T2: L3, L4; T3: L1, L3; T4: L2, L3, L6, L7; T5: L2, L4; T6: L1, L3; T8: L1, L2, L3, L4; T9: L4, L8; T10: L1, L2, L3; T11: L1, L4; T13: L3, L8 Critical Thinking Questions: Cite Evidence, T4: L7, L8; T7: L2; T9: L1; T13: L5; Support a Point of View with Evidence, T7: L4; Support Ideas with Evidence, T13: L6; Identify Supporting Details, T5: L2; Integrate Information, T8: L1; Compare, T6: L1; Analyze Data, T1: L1; Analyze Maps, T1: L5; Analyze Information, T6: L5; Analyze Context, T7: L1; Analyze Political Cartoons: T5: L3, L4; T6: L3, L4, L5, L6; T7: L3, L5, L7, L8; T8: L1, L3; T9: L5, L8; T10: L1, L4; T11: L3 Lesson Assessment: T3 L1: #5; T4 L1: #4; T5 L1: #4, 5, T5 L2: #3; T5 L4: #4, 5; T6 L1: #4; T6 L4: #4; T6 L8: #2; T8 L2: #4, 5; T10 L1: #2; T10 L5: #4; T11 L1: #3; T11 L4: #4; T12 L3: #5; T12 L4: #5 Topic Assessment: T2: #15; T4: #4, 6, 14; T5: #1, 2, 12; T6: #8; T7: #5, 14, 15; T9: #22; T10: #9, 16; T11: #3; T12: #11, 12, 14, 16; T13: #9, 10, 18 21 st Century Skills: Interpret Sources; Analyze Primary and Secondary Sources; Compare Viewpoints; Identify Bias; Evaluate Existing Arguments; Consider and Counter Opposing Arguments: End Matter SE: T3: L4; T12: L1, L2, L3; T13: L1 Critical Thinking Questions: Infer, T3: L2; Integrate
