1 Course Title: AP European History Board Approval Date: 12/14/13 Credit / Hours: 1.5 credit Course Description: The Advanced Placement course in European History is designed to give students a rigorous and collegiate level opportunity to analyze the history of Europe since This course will involve the analysis of the elements of the acronym PERSIA (Political, Economic, Religious, Social, Intellectual and Artistic) for each time period/major event as well as how each time period has influenced current events. The course will be taught using a college level textbook and college level supplemental materials. The A.P. European History class will prepare students to take the AP exam at the end of the school year. Compare / Contrast feudalism, absolutism and constitutionalism. Identify the benefits and drawbacks to industrial development and urbanization. Overseas empires, Mercantilism, Slave Trade, American Revolution Analyze the effects of exploration and globalization.

Analyze the effects of enlightenment thinking on politics, social class and education. Identify the causes of the French Revolution and analyze the effects on the lives of ordinary people. Nationalism and Conservatism Wars of Independence in the Americas Industrialization and Social Unrest Characterizes the changes throughout Europe during Napoleon's reign. Describe how the rise of Nationalism reshaped political boundaries in Europe. Assess the causes of American wars for independence and the effects on Europe. Analyze the social unrest that accompanied increased industrialization.

Understand the role of nationalism in the unification of Germany and Italy and the downfall of empires. Detail the effects of the second Industrial Revolution and Nationalism on education, science religion and gender roles. Differentiate Imperialism with New Imperialism, motives, effects, scope. Evaluate the weaknesses in the Alliance system and the problems created at the end of World War 1. Detail the factors that led to the Great Depression.
