Jones Assistant Vice Chancellor Subject: CSU Local Admission Areas and Designated Service Areas for School-College Relations Given the number of CSU campuses that are now impacted, it is beneficial to provide a comprehensive table ofeach local admission area for first-time freshmen as well as for upperdivision transfer students in which the statewide admission criteria apply or describe how the statewide admission criteria are utilized on those campuses that are fully impacted at the program level. The impaction of any program will result in the use of supplemental admission criteria for all applicants to that program regardless ofthe local area. Geographical boundaries are used in categorizing the local admission area for all public, private, charter, and parochial schools. Under campus impaction for first-time freshmen and transfers, supplemental admission criteria will be utilized for those applicants who complete their high school preparation or their transferable coilege work at institutions outside these designated local admission areas. Impaction plans are requested and submitted annually and apply to the next year's admission cycle. Specific school districts that form the local admission area for a campus must be defined in each impaction request whether the request is seeking to renew the current local admission area or to modift it in any way. The attached table will be updated and released annually after the impaction requests are reviewed and approved. In order to differentiate the geographic areas for local admission from the service areas for school-college relations and outreach, the attached table includes this information as well. The service areas will continue to provide a decentralized communication and distribution point to supply systemwide information and materials about the Califomia State University to counselors and other services personnel in all Califomia high schools and community colleges. Prospective students and their family members residing in these service areas can obtain systemwide information and guidance conceming any campus from the designated outreach service area cfimpus. Provosts/Vice President for Academic Affairs Vice President for Student Affairs AA-2010-20 August 18, 2010 Page 2 It should be emphasized that the area for service for school-college relations assigned to each campus is for systemwide outreach and representation only. It does not delimit the right or opportunity of any campus to communicate to high schools and community colleges about its own uniqueness because all campuses are statewide. Moreover, the delineation of service area is not a basis for defining or restricting the admission of qualified students. The service area designation is reserved exclusively for outreach, recruitment, and communication purposes to ensure that no population in California is neglected. Unless otherwise negotiated and mutually accepted, these areas also apply for the purposes of providing CSU services to secondary schools with regard to the Early Assessment Program (EAP). In addition to the table of local admission and service area designations (Attachment A), there are two additional attachments. Attachment B references the service areas by counties and includes information about areas served by more than one campus. Attachment C is a more detailed description of the service areas for particular CSU campuses that include the county of Los Angeles. Questions concerning the local admission areas or the services areas should be directed to Mr. Eric Forbes at (562) 951-4726 or eforbes@calstate.edu.
