Introduction Managing Documents in the Citrix XenApp Remote Desktop What is a Citrix XenApp Remote Desktop? It is a virtualized instance of MS Windows with only enough software to run TAS in a controlled environment. The remote desktop was implemented to increase the level of security surrounding TAS and the application data therein. This document provides information on how to manage documents (uploading, downloading, and viewing) in the Citric XenApp Remote Desktop. For more information on installing the Citrix Receiver Plugin (remote desktop plugin), logging into the remote desktop, and logging into TAS, refer to the TAS User Guide document at http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/applicants/tas. Overview The remote desktop presents a different approach to managing documents. Documents may not be opened directly within the remote desktop they must first be saved to your computer. In order to save documents to your computer, you have to allow the remote desktop to communicate with your computer. Granting Permission to the Remote Desktop IMPORTANT: The first time you attempt to upload or download file, you will receive the message shown here. You must click Yes or Read & Write in order to allow uploads or downloads to your computer. Note: This dialogue box varies by operating system, and may look different on your computer. Navigating the File Browser Every time you download or upload a document, you will be presented with the below screen where you can select a location to save or upload a file. Be sure to select the proper location. The file structure of the remote desktop, shown in red, should not be selected. Always navigate to your computer, shown in green below, to select a location to download a file, or to select a file for upload.
Uploading Files When you attempt to attach a file by clicking the Browse button and then clicking on your folder structure, you will likely be prompted to allow access to the remote desktop. From there, you will be able to navigate to any files that you normally have access to on your computer. Viewing Files As mention previously, the remote desktop does not have programs installed (e.g., no PDF reader, Excel, etc.) to allow you to view documents directly on the remote desktop. To view documents, you must first download the files to your computer and open them there. Click a file to download. A popup will appear at the bottom of your screen. Click the arrow next to Save and choose Save as. The file browser shown previously will appear. Choose the location on your local machine where you wish to save the file.!
