Overview The 8x8 Response Point Adapter (RPA) is a device required to enable the use of 8x8 VoIP phone service with the Microsoft Response Point small business phone system. This device should be installed in the same LAN network that houses the Microsoft Response Point system. (See diagram below). Internet Network Customer Router 8x8 RPA System Requirements To install the 8x8 RPA unit, you will need: 1. 2. 3. 4. A computer with Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or Vista operating system with an installed Ethernet adapter. Internet Explorer Version 6.0, Mozilla 1.7.12 (5.0), or Firefox 1.5 and above (for configuration). Microsoft Response Point Administrator software (Version 1.0 SP2) installed. A complete Microsoft Response Point system (Version SP2) installed. (Base unit and IP phones). Note: The 8x8 RPA supports all Microsoft Response Point OEM hardware platforms, including the AastraLink RP, D-Link VoiceCenter and Syspine Digital Operator Phone System 3

Configuring the Microsoft Response Point System for use with 8x8 phone service 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Make sure Microsoft Response Point Administrator Version 1.0 SP2 software is installed on your computer. Close all running software applications. Launch the Microsoft Response Point Administrator software. Connect the 8x8 RPA to the Microsoft Response Point base unit that you wish to associate with the 8x8 service. Connect the 8x8 RPA to the same network as your Microsoft Response Point base unit. This will be the screen you should see after logging in: 6. Click Add Voice Service (or Edit Voice Service if you have already created a 8x8 account). 4

7. Select Service that connects through the specified device. You will then see the 8x8 BPA430 (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx): 192.xxx.xx.xx xxx(8x8 US) device listed in the box. Highlight the device then click OK. If you don t see this device listed, please check to see that you have connected the unit to the network. Then, click Refresh to try to locate the device again. 8. This is the screen you will see for confirmation. Click Next. 5

9. If you have ordered multiple virtual numbers or toll free numbers for your 8x8 service, you can assign these phone numbers to specific extensions here by clicking Add. Otherwise, click Next and skip this section. To obtain your virtual numbers and toll free numbers online, log into your account at http://www.8x8.com. Enter the virtual number or toll free number you want to add. Select 10. Yes to assign the number to a specific user (using the drop-down menu) or select No to have the number directed to the Automated receptionist. Click OK to continue. 6

11. Enter the phone number or Caller ID name you would like to display when others receive calls from you. If you do not wish to display this information, leave this field blank and click Next. 12. Choose a name for this service then Click Next. 7

13. Choose the prefix digit 8 or 9 to use for outbound calls. Click Finish to continue. 14. Your installation is now complete. Click Close. Important: After this step, please wait approximately 2 minutes before activating your Response Point System to complete registration with the 8x8 RPA. 8

Advanced Configuration of the 8x8 RPA The advanced configuration web interface allows you to reconfigure various aspects of the RPA, including: LAN settings (such as reconfiguring the RPA to use a static IP address instead of DHCP) Configuration access password Microsoft Response Point PBX authentication credentials Timezone and localization settings of the RPA RPA firmware upgrade Software reset of the RPA Restore RPA factory default settings To access advanced configuration for your 8x8 RPA device, follow step 6 (Edit Voice Service) through to step 8, as previously listed, and click Advanced Properties, as shown below. This will launch a web browser with the IP address of the RPA unit. If prompted for a password, you may use the default configuration access password, admin. Most Commonly Used Advanced Configuration Settings: LAN Settings Click the LAN link on the left and then LAN Settings. Choose Specify static LAN configuration and enter the specifics of your network, including a permanent static IP address for the RPA. Configuration Access Password Click the SIP link on the left and then SIP Access. Go to Authentication and re-enter your authentication ID and password. 9

Activating your 8x8 Account To activate your 8x8 account, you will need the 10 digit activation code sent in the confirmation email after you placed your 8x8 SIP Trunk service order. You may also obtain the activation code online by logging into your account at: http://www.8x8.com Simply dial the automated activation service number: 012-0001 and wait for the 8x8 automated voice to answer. Then, follow the instructions for entering the 10 digit activation code and hang up.
