He chose to study at Holmesglen because of the pathway options available to him. Joseph began his studies in the Diploma of Building and then smoothly transitioned into the Bachelor of Construction Management & Economics. Being taught by industry professionals brought a practicality to the program which made it quite unique and enabled me to consider day to day occurrences onsite. The role of a forensic scientist is to present objective evidence and opinions that will assist the court with their deliberation process. With this emphasis in mind, the degree structure incorporates a strong foundation in the biological and chemical sciences in conjunction with the study of forensics. The forensic subjects delivered throughout the program provide you with the necessary skills required to apply scientific principles and techniques in the investigation of criminal acts. Forensic scientists are often among the first at disaster scenes and Australian practitioners have been involved in resolving human tragedies such as the Victorian bushfires in 2009, the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and the Bali bombings in 2002 and 2005. Program emphasis is on the laboratory-based fields of forensic biology and forensic chemistry, and covers areas such as the collection and examination of trace evidence, forensic evidence and the law, toxicology, forensic statistics, specialised chemical/biological analysis, and the interpretation and reporting of analytical results. The fee is charged at the time of enrolment and students have the option of paying up-front or, depending on eligibility, deferring payment through a SA-HELP loan.
