2013-2014 Activities and Achievements

HIGHLIGHTS of the YEAR KidStart is a unique group of devoted individuals who work together to help the kids who need help the most. We recruit and train caring adults to mentor or coach these kids for the game of life. Through the gift of time, our mentors help kids grow, thrive and connect with the community they call home. Since we began, more than 30 years ago, we have helped more than 2800 children and youth across British Columbia. This has only been possible because of the generous support of our funders, donors and volunteers. Our aim is to help many more. Selected Highlights A special shout-out goes to Car2Go for making KidStart their official charity in 2013. Through their networks $60,000 was raised for KidStart. We love you guys! $60K Raised! Amongst others, KidStart benefitted from the generous support of the McKesson Foundation,Face the World Foundation, Coast Capital, the CKNW Orphan s Fund, City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Regional Construction Association Under 40. Since Telus provided us with funds to help us develop our new KidStart website (www.kidstart.ca), the number of KidStart volunteer applications we ve received 100% Increase in applications! has more than doubled, making it easier for us to match our kids with a KidStart mentor. 3

HIGHLIGHTS of the YEAR We would like to thank RBC Royal Bank for their donation of $40,000 to KidStart and their $20,000 donation to the Community Development Department of Stó:lō Nation which has made it possible to launch KidStart in their traditional territories. The RBC Foundation also hosted 30 KidStart participants and their volunteers in their Roger s Arena box suite for Selena Gomez, One Direction and New Kids on the Block concerts. Thanks RBC. You Rock! $60K DONATION! 81% of volunteers thatresponded to our annual $7.3K Raised! In April, 36 people participated in the Vancouver Sun Run in support of KidStart. $7300 was raised. 4

Our 2nd Annual KidStart Community Day was attended by over 260 people and raised over $3600. Thanks to all of our sponsors: Pedalheads, Columbia Containers, Buy Low Foods (Fraser) and PEDAL Foundation. $3.6K Raised! One KidStart participant and his brother greatly enjoyed their time making buttons, watching the performers, and completing the Pedalheads scavenger hunt at our KidStart Community Day. With encouragement and cheering from his KidStart mentor, the participant completed the scavenger hunt. After meeting together for 4 months, this was the first time that the participant genuinely smiled! It was at that moment that his mentor realized why KidStart is so important to youth. The participant said that he really enjoyed the day and liked being able to help out. He was also happy that his brother was still wearing the buttons he made on his jacket. survey agreed KidStart had improved their life. In December and July, we held our Volunteer Appreciation events to celebrate and thank our volunteer mentors for all they do. The Cactus Club Café hosted our July BBQ where volunteers were honored with long service awards for their commitment to KidStart. Through the generous support of one of our donors, this year 70 youth went to Summer camp who otherwise would not have been able to attend. 5
