What is rdic Ecoabeed copy and printing paper? The rdic Ecoabe is an officia eco-abe with absoute requirements. rdic Ecoabeed papers have ess impact on the environment than most other papers in their product groups and the rdic Ecoabe signifies that the product fufis strict environmenta requirements. This means that the paper has minimum environmenta impact with regard to production, use and waste. This is achieved by using certified raw materias, by imiting the use of environmentay harmfu chemicas, by producing ow emissions to air and water and by reducing energy consumption. rdic Ecoabeing s environmenta requirements provide individua manufacturers guidance on how they can contribute to the deveopment of an ecoogicay sustainabe society. The rdic Ecoabe on a paper product confirms that resources have been used efficienty and that environmentay suitabe production methods have been empoyed. The raw materias used in the product have been evauated by rdic Ecoabeing and ony raw materias of the highest quaity in environmenta terms may be used in rdic Ecoabeed products. Why choose the rdic Ecoabe? The rdic Ecoabe is a performance standard with absoute requirements. The rdic Ecoabe is a cost-effective and simpe means of communicating environmenta work and commitment. The rdic Ecoabe enjoys high credibiity and famiiarity in the rdic countries. Recognition of the rdic Ecoabe in 2010 was 98% in Sweden, 95% in rway, 88% in Finand, 93% in Denmark and 73% in Iceand. Environmenta issues are compex. It can take a ong time and extensive resources to gain an understanding of a specific area. rdic Ecoabeing faciitates this work. The rdic Ecoabe aso sets requirements on quaity and recycabiity. This means that a rdic Ecoabe icence can aso be seen as a mark of quaity. A rdic Ecoabe aows manufacturers to communicate to purchasers in the pubic and private sector that the manufacturer is environmentay conscious. rdic Ecoabeing of Copy and printing paper 4.1 3 (9)
What can carry the rdic Ecoabe? The product group of copy and printing paper incudes the foowing types of paper: Wood-based and wood-free unconverted copying and printing paper that is made from chemica and/or mechanica pup and/or recyced fibre for writing, printing and copying. The foowing boards made from chemica and/or mechanica pup and/or recyced fibre can aso be rdic Ecoabeed. Cardboard: Soid beach board (SBB), soid beached suphate (SBS) and soid unbeached board (SUB). Foding boxboard (FBB) White ined chipboard (WLC) Ony paper with a distinct trade name can be ecoabeed. Paper with a trade name that may appear on both ecoabeed and non-ecoabeed paper is not eigibe for rdic Ecoabeing. These criteria do not appy to tissue paper, greaseproof paper, coffee fiters, cardboard (other than the aforementioned), kraft paper or sack paper. This criteria document may aso be used to document that the paper fufis the environmenta requirements for paper that is used for rdic Ecoabeed printed matter. How to appy rdic Ecoabeing requirements for paper products are subdivided into a basic modue, a chemica modue and suppementary modues for various product areas. The basic modue sets out requirements for paper and pup manufacturing, whie the chemica modue contains requirements in respect of chemicas. The various suppementary modues contain requirements specific to the product group in question. If the requirement eves differ between modues, the eve specified in the suppementary modue aways appies. This suppementary modue appies to copy and printing paper. te that the imit vaues on energy consumption in this suppementary modue are more stringent than those stipuated in the basic modue. Each requirement is marked with the etter R (requirement) and a number. A the requirements in this document and the reevant requirements in the basic modue (ver. 2) and chemica modue (ver. 2) must be met before a icence may be granted. If the manufacturer operates other reporting systems, such as EMAS, ISO 14 001 or reports to reguatory authorities, these can be approved if they are sufficienty specific to the product and if the basis for cacuation is as specified in the criteria. rdic Ecoabeing of Copy and printing paper 4.1 4 (9)

These icons are: ( Encose Appication Appications sha be sent to rdic Ecoabeing in the country in which the product is to be sod, see the address ist on page 2. Appications consist of an appication form and documentation of compiance (as specified in the requirements). Saes in other rdic countries Registration of a icence in a different rdic country requires the submission of the foowing documentation to rdic Ecoabeing. Documentation demonstrating fufiment of nationa reguations or trade agreements on affiiation to a recycing system or packaging recaim organisation (R6). On-site inspection During the appication process, rdic Ecoabeing performs on-site inspections to ensure adherence to the requirements. For the purposes of this inspection, data used for cacuations, origina copies of submitted certificates, test records, purchase statistics, and simiar documents that support the appication must be avaiabe for examination. Costs An appication fee is charged to companies appying for a icence. There is an additiona annua fee based on the revenues produced by the paper carrying the rdic Ecoabe. R3 Energy requirements copy and printing paper Maximum tota eectricity and fue scores for rdic Ecoabeed copy and printing paper. P eectricity(tota) < 1.15 P fue(tota) < 1.15 The energy score is cacuated with the aid of a technica description of the production processes, where the energy consumption is compared to reference vaues for production. A more detaied description of documentation requirements and cacuation methods is provided in version 2 of the basic modue, in which P eectricity and P fue are aso defined. P eectricity(tota) and P fue(tota) incude the energy scores from production of both paper and the constituent pups. ( Cacuations in accordance with Appendix 2 of the basic modue (version 2) showing compiance with the imit vaues. rdic Ecoabeing aso provides a spreadsheet that is to be used for these cacuations. rdic Ecoabeing of Copy and printing paper 4.1 6 (9)

Production capacity must not exceed 10 tonnes/day, based on annua figures. 2. Production quantities must not exceed 10 tonnes/day, based on annua figures. 3. Production requires the paper machine s pump system to be emptied so often that the resetting time (time required to change paper quaity) is at east 7% of the net production time. If this exemption rue is used for a paper mi or integrated mi, the emission figures for other paper or pup production must not incude emissions that stem from one or more paper making ines incuded in this specia paper production. This exemption may ony be used for paper making ines that fufi items 1, 2 or 3. This exemption rue may not be used as part of the cacuation of the mean vaue for various paper making ines. P eectricity(tota) and P fue(tota) incude the energy scores from paper production and the pups that are used. A more detaied description of how the energy scores are cacuated is provided in the basic modue (version 2).
