Egcobox Software Overview The Egcobox Software provides the architect and the construction engineer with the design and dimensioning of the thermal insulated cantilever connection system Egcobox. The user has the possibility to calculate the following types of balconies and load cases: Type 1: cantilever balcony Type 2: recessed loggia / veranda balcony Type 3: internal corner cantilever balcony Type 4: external corner cantilever balcony Type 5: column supported balcony Type 6: beam supported balcony The program provides the user with a set of preset loads: Dead Loads resulting from dead weight of concrete (which is automatically generated by the slab thickness and by the entered specific weight for reinforced concrete), Dead Load ΔG from covering according to own specifications, Live load for the entire area, Line load (e.g. from facing brickwork) parallel to the insulation joint with free selectable distance, Surrounding line load from handrail and balustrade elements respectively as well as Surrounding horizontal line load as horizontal load (impact load). All stresses are entered as characteristic loads (without safety factors). The safety factors are preset in the program and can be altered manually by the user, if necessary. From the sum of the load cases the maximum internal forces (moment and/or shear force at the bearing line of the cantilever slab) are determined and an appropriate Egcobox is selected, which covers the internal forces. The program is restricted to the dimensioning of the Egcobox connections. With the assistance of the project administration several dimensioning situations can be saved into one project file. These files can be opened later and altered if necessary. The system induces, dependent from the bearing situation, if so deflections of the cantilever slab. The hence resulting banking of cantilever can be determined in compliance with the technical brochure of the Egcobox. For the determination of the internal forces the Finite-Elements-Method (FEM) is used. The forces are mapped realistically by using spring bearings. For receiving the most accurate result, a grid of approximately 10 x 10 cm is used. This element size is adapted depending on the selected slab geometry. Egcobox Software Example calculation Type 1 Cantilevered balcony Fig. 5: Tab System Under System the slab thickness h i, the slab thickness h a and the height of Egcobox h e can be selected. The height of Egcobox is the decisive height for the choice of the Egcobox connectors. Dependent from the selected type of balcony, the geometry of the balcony can be put in (see also other types of balconies). In Version 2.0 of the Egcobox Software it is possible to select a discontinuous line of support. For example the value for the slab length l x1 is changed to 3.00 m. The graphic is adapted automatically. 8
Egcobox Software Example calculation Type 1 Cantilevered balcony Fig. 6: Tab Stress In the tab Stress the assumption of loads can be entered. There is a differentiation between dead loads and live loads. Please note that the impacts have to be inserted as characteristic values (without safety factor). The safety factors depend on the selected standard and can be changed by clicking the button variables (for further information see later in this example). Under dead loads, the dead weight of concrete (calculated automatically), the covering, the balustrade load (surrounding) and a line load can be determined. By clicking the info-button information about the distance of the line load (see next page) will be shown. Under live loads values for the live load, the horizontal load (impact load) of the handrail and the height of the handrail can be entered.
