All wetted welded surfaces are stainless steel. External surfaces of the DC filter housings are glass-bead blasted for a consistent, easy care finish. Pickle and passivation are also available as an option. The DC Model filter housing is available in a variety of sizes to accommodate from 4 to 88 firer cartridges with lengths to 40 inches. The DC Model Housing handles liquids at pressures and temperatures of up to 150 psig at250 F (see table 1). Note that maximum operating pressure and temperature is the rating for the housing only. Actual firer operating temperature depends on temperature capability ofthe filter cartridge and gasket used in the housing. All cartridge sealing components are constructed of303, 304, or 304L stainless steel, to prevent galling of the locking nut or knob. The 4DC and SDC housings have a polypropylene knob with 303 stainless steel threaded insert. The 12DC and 22DC housings have pressure plates which contain plastic bushings. The inlet/outlet connections on the 4DC and 50C housings are male.

Once a flow rate for a selected cartridge is known, use Table 3 tocheck whether the housing's flow rate falls within the recommended guidelines. When sizing a filter, the amount ofcontaminant to be removed needs tobe considered in addition tothe flow rate and desired pressure drop. Low initial pressure drop enhances filter cartridge life.

l1li a 3M company Installation and Operation Instructions DC Model Filter Housings DC Model Cartridge Filter Housings meet general-purpose industrial and commercial filtration needs. All wetted surfaces are constructed of durable 304 stainless steel. The housing closure V-band clamp is of plate alloy steel. The 4DC and 50C models are bead blasted to provide an easy care surface, passivation is also available. The 12DC and 22DC models are provided with a passivated finish. All internal components are also constructed of 304 stainless steel, except the centerpost which is constructed of 303 stainless steel to prevent any thread galling to the lock nut. Standard cover gaskets are made from Nitrile or optional Fluorocarbon. A single V-band clamp housing closure, and independently sealed cartridges within the housing, provide quick and easy cartridge change-outs. A removable cartridge post lifts out for easy cleaning. Both sludge and clean chambers have drains to help facilitate cleaning. DC model housings use 93/4,97/8, or 10 inch modular cartridges. In addition, Micro-Screen, Poro-Klean, and Activated Carbon Filter cartridges can be used with the 4DC housings. Operating Instructions NOTE: Filter housings are normally shipped without cartridges. Before putting filter housing in service, be certain that the proper filter cartridge is installed. HOUSING INSTALLATION Filter housing legs, with pre-drilled mounting holes, are provided for bolting filter in place. Note that the inlet port is higher than the outlet port. DONOT install filter backwards. FILTER CARTRIDGE INSTALLATIONIREPLACEMENT STEP 1. - Shut off inlet and outlet valves. Remove vent plug to relieve pressure. Remove sludge drain plug and the drain filter housing. (If filter must be completely drained, also remove the clean chamber drain plug.) STEP 2. - When the filter housing is completely drained, loosen cover clamp nut and unsnap T-bolt retainer. Remove V-Band clamp and cover. STEP 3. - Unscrew the lock nut (a 13/32 11 diameter hole is provided in the nut so that a wrench is not necessary if a rod is inserted). Remove the pressure plate assembly. STEP 4. - (Cartridge Replacement only) Remove the exposed spring and seal assembly for the 12DC and 22DC filters (the 40C and 5DC will not have the spring and seal assembly) and the top cartridges. Inspect housing to be sure all liquid has drained out. Lift out each cartridge post with remaining cartridges. Clean all parts thoroughly and replace cover gasket if necessary. STEP 5. - Place each cartridge post into a cartridge pedestal and push down until the ears near the bottom of each cartridge post are seated within the cartridge pedestal. Install cartridges by sliding them gently down the cartridge posts. Do not force, jam or drop them in place. STEP 6. - Place a spring and seal assembly (including spacer if cartridges are 93/4" or 9718 1 long) on top of each cartridge stack so that the tubular guide fits inside the cartridge. When all spring and seal assemblies are in place, place the pressure plate over the centerpost so that the flanged end of the plastic sleeve is uppermost and tighten lock nut. Note that the 40C and SOC filters do not have spring and seal assembly. STEP 7. - Replace the cover and position the cover clamp. Tighten cover clamp nut. (40C & SOC - torque to 15 ft. lb.. max.\; 12DC & 22DC - torque to 40 ft. lb.. max.) Do not over tighten. A gap of approximately 1/2 11 should remain between clamp ends. Replace drain plug(s). Proceed to STARTING. STARTING With vent plug removed, open the inlet valve and slowly fill the filter housing. When a continuous stream of liquid comes out the vent hole, close the inlet valve and tighten the vent plug. Open inlet valve and check for leakage. If filter leaks, shut the inlet valve, open the vent plug to relieve pressure, and re-tighten the V-Band clamp. Repeat leakage check. Open the inlet and outlet valves. Filter is now in operation. CARTRIDGE LIFE CUNO filter cartridges have been designed to filter a wide range of industrial fluids. The period at which cartridges should be replaced can only be determined by actual experience in your system. However, it is generally recommended that cartridges be replaced when differential pressure across the filter reaches 25 35 psi, or once per year whichever condition occurs first. CARTRIDGE IDENTIFICATION Since cartridge selection depends on each specific application, identification cannot be indicated on the filter label. The user should determine the type (usually found on the filter cartridge package and maintain record of proper cartridge for each particular application.
