Run a Windows XP program in Windows 7 Many people do not want to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista or Windows 7 because some of their older XP programs can t run in these new Windows versions. However, Microsoft builds on virtual PC with XP Mode to resolve this issue and this new and powerful feature, included the virtual PC based, virtual environment and fully licensed copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 3, can be downloaded as a free download from Microsoft website Understand how Windows XP Mode works Using Windows XP Mode, you can run programs that were designed for Windows XP on computers running Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions Windows XP Mode works in two ways both as a virtual operating system and as a way to open programs within Windows 7. Windows XP Mode runs in a separate window on the Windows 7 desktop, much like a program, except it's a fully functional version of Windows XP. In Windows XP Mode, you can access your physical computer's CD/DVD drive, install programs, save files, and perform other tasks as if you were using a computer running Windows XP. When you install a program in Windows XP Mode, the program appears in both the Windows XP Mode list of programs and in the Windows 7 list of programs, so you can open the program directly from Windows 7. Programs installed in Windows XP Mode in the Windows 7 Start menu (Sources: Microsoft - Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 ) Notes: Almost all programs compatible with Windows Vista, and the majority of Windows XP programs, Run well in Windows 7. This is due to the way Windows XP Mode works in Windows 7. To resume playback, click the Play button in Windows Media Player. Before download Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC In order to use Windows XP Mode, it s necessary to make sure that the computer meets certain system requirements. Otherwise, Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode will not work correctly even though the program might be able to be downloaded and installed.
