This step- by- step guide will demonstrate how to utilize the Quizzes Tool in your course in Desire2Learn (D2L). Locating the Quizzes Tool: 1. Go to the Course Navigation Bar and locate the Quizzes Tool. Select Quizzes. 2. The Quizzes Tool appears displaying the quizzes associated to your course. There are many options available to your instructor that effect what you will see in the Quizzes section of your course. Our example shows three (3) quizzes, Tips for Success, Test quiz, and Brand New Test Quiz. You can tell by the display that the names of the quizzes in the list are hyperlinks in the course. You can see that the Tips for Success and Test quiz are displayed under the heading of Current Quizzes. This means that the availability restriction settings are allowing you to access this quiz and take it. Brand New Test Quiz is shown under the heading Future Quizzes, which means that it is not available to be taken now. It has the date and time restrictions for accessing the quiz displayed underneath the name. Page 1 of 7 Rev. 12/12/2012

We will begin by looking at the Tips for Success quiz. Select Tips for Success from the list. How to Begin a Quiz 3. When you select a quiz, the Summary window opens with information related to the selected quiz. Important information is presented on this screen that should be read BEFORE beginning to take the quiz. There are two (2) sections that appear on this screen Quiz Details and Instructions. Note that these sections may not all be included by your instructor. 4. Quiz Details provides you with your access availability for the quiz. In the example, your instructor has set the Quiz Period without an end date/time so it will always be available. You can see the date the quiz opens. The Time Allowed settings for this quiz indicate that there is no start time restriction but it is estimated that the quiz may take as long as two (2) hours to complete. You will want to make sure that you have access to a very stable Internet connection and have sufficient uniterrupted time to complete the quiz. Attempts The instructor has allowed an unlimited number of attempts for this quiz. 5. The Instructions section of the window contains a reminder to Save each question after marking a response. This is advisable because in the event that your online connection fails, you want to make sure that your responses have been saved in Springboard! It is good practice to save each question after marking your answer, even if you plan to go back and make changes before submitting the quiz for grading. 6. Once you have reviewed all of the information on the Summary window, to begin your quiz, select Start Quiz! to access the questions and enter your answers. Page 2 of 7 Rev. 12/12/2012

7. You may receive a confirmation notice in a pop- up window when you select Start Quiz! It could look like this example. If so, read the notice and select your choice of options. How to Take a Quiz 8. There is a great deal of information in this section, so we ll begin at the top of the screen. At the top left, you will see that this quiz is available for two (2) hours. You should always be mindful of the time left so you can reply to as many, if not all of the questions as you can. In this example, multiple questions are displayed on the same page at the same time. This is an option set by your instructor. Each question section includes a Save button for that question. To view additional questions, simply scroll the page. Under the time display you will see the Questions section. This column shows you the number of questions on the quiz and contains a useful legend. In the Legend, the floppy disk icon in full color ( ) under a question number indicates that the question response has been saved. In other words, you answered the question and saved your response. The same floppy disk icon in black and white ( ) indicates that the question has not been accessed and/or that you did not save your response. The last icon is an exclamation point ( information is available on that item. ). This icon indicates that additional Page 3 of 7 Rev. 12/12/2012

You will notice that the numbers associated to each question are in blue text and may change your cursor from an arrow to a select- hand when you mouse- over them. This is because each one is a link to the text location of the associated question. Selecting the number of the question is an additional way to access that question. 9. In the center of the screen you will see the questions being asked by your instructor. These questions can be presented in many styles. You may see questions that use radio buttons like shown in this example. Questions using radio buttons may include True or False, and Multiple Choice styles. Read the question and determine the appropriate response. Select the radio button next to that response and then select the Save button at the bottom of the question section. 10. Another style of question that you may encounter is a short or long answer question. For this style you may see something like this example. You can see that the question is stated at the top but the instructor wants a sentence or paragraph for your response. The instructor has provided the beginning of the response in the text editor The name Springboard! was chosen To respond to this type of question, select the pencil ( ) icon to open the text editor. Springboard! s text editor includes two (2) tabs Basic and Advanced. The Basic tab has functionality similar to Notepad or Wordpad. The features include bold, underline, italic, creating lists, inserting tables, and adding links or images. The Advanced tab has all of the functions of Basic plus the ability to Change the Paragraph format, Change Fonts, Change Font Size, Change Text Colors, Enter Math Equations, and Paste content from another text editor. Both tabs include Spell Check certainly important in online communications. Select the tab with the features that you will need and type your response. Remember to Save your response when done. Page 4 of 7 Rev. 12/12/2012

11. Additional styles of question that you may encounter include: a. Multiple Answer Similar to multiple choice except you will select check boxes next to more than one response option rather than a single radio button. b. Order Answer The instructor wants you to select the correct order that the answers should follow. You use pull- down menus to select the number 1 next to the answer that should be first, the number 2 next to the second response, and so on. c. Fill in the blank The instructor will pose a question from which a particular word is missing. A text field is supplied for you to type the missing word for your response. d. Matching The question is followed by two columns, generally a column of statements and a column of numbered words. Next to the column of statements you will find text boxes for you to enter the number of the word from the second column that best associates with the statement in the first column. 12. If your instructor has formatted your quiz to allow only one question on each page, you will see additional navigation buttons under and over each question. As you can see in the example, there is information about where you are in the quiz Page 9 of 10 as well as navigation buttons to move to the Next Page or question, or the Previous Page or question. How to Submit a Quiz 13. Well, now you have completed all of the responses for your quiz, checked your answers, assured yourself that you have not run out of time, and you are ready to Submit your Quiz (or, in other words, turn it in). Page 5 of 7 Rev. 12/12/2012

At the bottom of the page, whether there are multiple questions on the page or just a single question, you will find two selection buttons: Save All Responses, and Go To Submit Quiz. It is a good practice to select the first, Save All Responses, button to be sure that you did not miss saving something elsewhere in the quiz. Then select the Go To Submit Quiz button. 14. The first thing that happens when you select Go To Submit Quiz is that you will see your first confirmation screen. At this point, you are still able to directly select the question numbers to review your responses before submission. When you are ready, select Submit Quiz. 15. Once selected, you will see a pop- up window containing the last Quiz Confirmation message shown in the example. This offers you the opportunity to make any last- minute review of your responses (if you have time!) by selecting No and looking over your quiz answers. Springboard! wants to make absolutely sure that you are ready to submit the Quiz! Select Yes, submit quiz to submit your quiz for grading. Page 6 of 7 Rev. 12/12/2012

How to View Quiz Results 16. We have submitted the quiz for grading. The first thing that you will see will be the submission confirmation information screen shown in the example below. Depending on the settings that your instructor has applied to your quiz, the information displayed may vary from this example. You can see that the name of the quiz is displayed at the top of the screen, the number of the Attempt that you have submitted as well as the Date and Time stamp, a note of confirmation that your quiz was submitted successfully, and your Score for the quiz. 17. If we Close this view it returns us to the Quizzes Submissions for this quiz. We will see that additional information is now available to view. Since this quiz allows unlimited attempts, now you see that each attempt is listed with its associated grade plus the Overall Grade (highest attempt). 18. Additional information about your quiz attempt(s) may be available if your instructor selected that option. You would access this through the pull- down menu next to the headline (shown above). Otherwise, you can access Date/Time and Submission confirmation about each attempt listed by selecting it from the Individual Attempts list. Page 7 of 7 Rev. 12/12/2012
