Course Information University of Ghana Visiting Students- Spring 2016 Students are asked to arrange their own program of study while at the University of Ghana, Legon (UG). This process begins here at UNH where students are expected to meet with their academic advisors to compile a list of course choices that fulfill any Discovery and major/minor requirements the student may need, in addition to general electives. The course list that students create will be subject to change depending to class availability at UG, so it would be wise to have a list of back-up courses for each requirement a student is hoping to fulfill. Students are asked to bring this course list with them to Ghana. Upon arrival, the International Programmes Office will aid students in course selection and registration processes. Pre-Arrival: Choosing Your Courses Course Handbooks: It is recommended that you visit the UG website for the most up-to-date course offerings from the Humanities and Sciences handbooks. It is from these handbooks that you will make your course selections. After arriving to UG, you will be given a permanent copy of these handbooks. The links are provided below: Rules and Requirements: http://www.ug.edu.gh/aad/students-handbook Students are required to take enough courses to maintain full-time status while studying abroad. UG requires students to take at least 15 credits. Typical courses offered through UG are weighted with only 3 credits. We recommend that you maintain a full semester load of 16 credits. Keep in mind that for credits taken abroad to transfer back to UNH, students must earn a C or better in the course. Each course offered at UG is labeled by an identifying three digit number. In general, students should plan to choose courses in the 300 OR 400 level, and all courses in only that level. If you have questions about this, please see us. Students should then choose courses ending in 0 or an even number (meaning the course is typically offered during the spring semester). 1

Course Levels: Level 100 (First year) courses: 100-199 Level 200 (Second year) courses: 200-299 Level 300 (Third year) courses: 300-399 Level 400 (Fourth year) courses: 400-499 Course numbers ending in: Zero (0): Offered both semesters Odd number (1,3,5,7,8): Offered only Fall semester Even number (2,4,6,8): Offered only Spring semester Combination of Subjects Owing to Time-Table constraints, it is not practicable to allow all the combinations of subjects that are desirable. Applicants are therefore advised to select the subjects of their preference from any three of the following groups of subjects; applicants are not to choose more than one subject from the same group: Group I Group II Group III Group IV Sociology Economics Theatre Arts Archaeology Linguistics Information Studies Geography English Social Work Psychology Home Science Mathematics Music Group V Group VI Group VII Group VIII History Dance Studies Arabic Statistics Nursing Political Science Spanish Religions Classics Accounting/Mgt Swahili French Computer Sc.
