CENTRAL MECHANICAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH INSTITUTE (A unit of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) Durgapur 713209 Notice for Summer Internship and Project Work of students No. CMERI/HRD/VT/2013/01 Date: 01.11.2013 In supersession of all earlier communications issued in this regard, applications are invited from students studying in 3 rd year of B.E/B.Tech for Summer Internship and from those studying in 1 st year of M.E/M.Tech, 1st year of M.Sc and 1st year of MCA courses for doing Project Work at the institute. Objectives: To offer opportunities to eligible and interested students to participate in our ongoing research activities for obtaining practical research experience at CSIR CMERI in the field of Mechanical Engineering and allied areas. Duration: For summer internship : 4 to 8 weeks during summer vacation (May to July) For Project Work : Two full semesters (3 rd and 4 th of ME/M Tech, M Sc and MCA) Selection process: Selection of interns from the applications received will be done on first cum first serve basis subject to the fulfillment of Eligibility Criteria given below. Eligibility criteria: B.E./B.Tech students are eligible for summer internship programme only after completion of their 6 th Semester. Students pursuing ME / M Tech / M Sc / MCA are eligible for doing their Project Work after completion of their 2 nd Semester. For applications received from students pursuing BE / B Tech and ME / M Tech degree from the Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs), no cut off marks have been kept. Preference will be given to the students coming from these prestigious institutions. For students who will be deputed through Indian Academy of Science or any other such prestigious National Academies no screening criteria have been kept, since screening already would have been done at their end. However, for other applicants, the eligibility criteria are as follows:-
The student must be studying in a recognized College/University/Institute with a stream relevant to the R & D area of CSIR CMERI. He / She should have secured at least 60% marks throughout his / her academic career (Starting from Final Board Exam of class X) For students pursuing BE/B Tech degree, their CGPA up to the last exam passed has to be at least 8.5 AND their All India Rank secured at JEE (MAIN) exam must be within 50,000 OR Rank secured at WBJEE exam must be within 3000. They must produce attested copies of these documents along with their applications. For students pursuing ME / M Tech degrees and willing to carry out their thesis work for last two semesters, in addition to the above criteria, they must possess GATE qualification and must be regular students of their respective institutions. The students must have adequate theoretical background (through regular coursework) in relevant area of his proposed internship or project work. Application procedure: Applications are to be submitted by post or by hand delivery to the address given below. Attested true copies of mark sheets/grade cards of all exams passed (starting from board exam of class X) Attested true copy of Rank Card for JEE (MAIN) or WBJEE Exam (for BE / B Tech students) and for ME/ M Tech students in addition to these, attested true copy of GATE Score Card. Students pursuing M Sc course must submit attested true copy of their GATE / NET Score Card. Bio-Data (as per enclosed proforma) An abstract of work (within 100 words) proposed to be done during the stay at CSIR CMERI (only for students applying for Project Work of their ME / M Tech / M Sc / MCA courses)
For students applying for Summer Internship, area(s) in which training is requested is to be clearly mentioned in their application. [Ongoing Research activities at CSIR-CMERI can be available at the website [http://www.cmeri.res.in] No phone call/email/personal query will be entertained in this regard. Students and their Guardians are requested not to contact over phone or visiting personally regarding their application and selection. Application Forwarded only by the student/candidate without any recommendation from his institution (Head of Institution, Head of Department or TPO) will not be considered. When to Apply: Applications must be received by the Head, Human Resource Development Division (HRD) latest by March 31, every year. The list of selected candidates (including wait listed ones) will be notified through CSIR-CMERI website by third week of April every year. Training Fees & Accommodation: There are no fees or tuition costs for the summer internship programme and for doing project work. However, no financial assistance will be provided to the students. Very few numbers of accommodations can be made available only for limited number of out station candidates on payment basis, if request is made with their application. Otherwise the students have to make their own arrangements. The decision of the concerned authority will be final and binding in this regard. NB: Director CSIR-CMERI reserves the right to accept or reject any application for Summer Internship and Project Work in any specific discipline, or increase/decrease the number of vacancies in any year due to internal reasons & ongoing programme/activities of the Institute.
