Summer 2016 Camp Volunteer Opportunities How do I become a volunteer at camp? We have 2 exciting volunteer opportunities for youth 14 years of age or older. Please read the following volunteer position descriptions and decide which interests you most. What do you want to obtain through a volunteer opportunity? What age group or activity camp interests you? Please fill out the Volunteer Application Form and return it to West End Community Centre, or via fax at 519-822- 5569. Volunteer Hours A City of Guelph Summer Camp Volunteer commitment can be put towards the Ontario Secondary School 40- Hour Community Service Requirement. Each volunteer s hours are tracked and authorized staff will sign off on the community involvement form if requested and provided. A reference letter may also be made available if needed. What s the next step? Once your application is reviewed, you may be contacted for an interview in May or June. Successful applicants must attend volunteer training before site placement. Volunteers for July will attend training at the end of June and volunteers for August will complete training at the end of July. Volunteer Position Descriptions Please note that the time commitment for each position varies and some volunteers may wish to volunteer for 1 day, 1 week or more over the course of the summer. Camps begin July 4 th and run until September 2nd General Volunteer Location/Time We are looking for mature and enthusiastic volunteers to assist us at our summer camps. General volunteers spend the whole day at camp assisting in various activities such as swimming, crafts, games, etc. you will be placed in a group with a staff member and 10 campers Swim Volunteers Assist with swimming adventures at day camp! Share your love of swimming with a child, while cooling off during those hot summer months. Swim volunteers provide assistance to a maximum of two children, in the shallow end at one of our City pools. Typically, the hours would be 8:00am -5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Volunteers may be pleased at any of our camps; however, placement is dependent on availability as well as the needs of each camp.
