PHD abstract: In my Phd thesis I am investigating Mycenean and Hittite fortifications in terms of their interrelations and intersections. In Anatolia and Greece of the Late Bronze Age, or the Late Helladic Period (1600-1050 BCE), fortifications were common architectural features of major cities. They surrounded and hence protected the city, signified power and embodied construction styles and traditions of the time period. Demonstrating a lively cultural exchange after Mycenaean and Hittite civilizations first established contact with each other in the 15th century BCE in Western Anatolia, Mycenaean and Hittite fortifications seem to have strongly influenced each other. 7
