Started in Spring 2008, planned until 2012. The purpose of this project is to develop teaching materials, lesson plans and activities that can be used by Turkish school teachers in lessons about the archaeology, history and cultural heritage of Bergama (ancient Pergamon) and the immediate surrounding region. Summer of 2006-07: Project for Greek and Turkish Friendship in cooperation with the University of Crete (Prof. N. Stampolidis); Supervising students from different faculties of Koç University at the excavation site of Eleftherna, Crete. PHD abstract: In my Phd thesis I am investigating Mycenean and Hittite fortifications in terms of their interrelations and intersections. In Anatolia and Greece of the Late Bronze Age, or the Late Helladic Period (1600-1050 BCE), fortifications were common architectural features of major cities. They surrounded and hence protected the city, signified power and embodied construction styles and traditions of the time period. Demonstrating a lively cultural exchange after Mycenaean and Hittite civilizations first established contact with each other in the 15th century BCE in Western Anatolia, Mycenaean and Hittite fortifications seem to have strongly influenced each other. 7
