1. INTRODUCTION Congratulations on your purchase of a Sentinel electronic safe. By choosing the Sentinel electronic safe, you have obtained a unique combination of security, convenience, and contemporary design at an affordable price. With proper use and maintenance, your Sentinel safe will serve you and your valuables for a long time to come. 1.1 Things to remember Follow all warnings found on the safe and in this guide. Securely mount the safe on a solid shelf or on the optional pedestal. Only use batteries of specified voltage, size and quality. Never allow any liquids to contaminate the safe's electronic components. Never expose the safe to extreme heat or moisture. Contact qualified SafeDecisions personnel for technical support issues. 1.2 Terms Used Open code Emergency opening 4-digit numeric code used for normal opening and closing of the safe. Special procedure for opening a safe if the open code is forgotten or unknown. 1.3 Normal operation To close & lock the safe: Close the door and press "Reset". Enter your own 4-digit open code. Press "Lock". To open the safe: Enter the correct 4-digit open code. To re-lock the safe: Close the door and press "Lock". 2 PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS 2.1 Model Number Sentinel Advanced SA41 2.2 Size and weight Feature Unit External height: 7.8 External width: 17.0 External depth: 16.1 Internal height: 7.7 Internal width: 16.8 Internal depth: 11.9 Door opening height: Door opening width: Internal volume: Weight: 5.7 12.4 6.7 gal 33 lbs 2.3 Standard features Emergency override: Power supply: User operation: Closing: Locking system: Construction Door: Special override number by contacting SafeDecisions technical support. 5 x standard alkaline AA-cell batteries. 4-digit open code. Electronic push button. High-grade steel latch. High quality, seam welded, 5/64 steel with anti-tamper slots. 3/32 cold-rolled steel door with anti-tamper slots. 2.4 Optional features The Sentinel safe can be equipped with a steel pedestal to allow floor mounting rather than shelf mounting. Page 4 2004 by SafeDecisions L.P. & Elsafe International AS

2.5 Locking system The Sentinel safe has a locking system specially designed to resist forcible entry. Instead of conventional locking bolts, a high-grade steel locking latch is used. This locking latch will engage and hook the door to the frame if a tool is forced in between them. It is virtually impossible to force the door open once the latch has engaged. 2.6 Anti-tamper Slots One of the attack points on a safe is the holes in the door. Smart thieves attempt to manipulate the electronics and locking mechanism through these holes. The Sentinel safe has only one small slot hidden behind the keyboardcompartment. In addition, an anti-tamper shield makes it virtually impossible to reach essential electronics and the locking mechanism from the outside. 2.7 The Automatic Relock function The Sentinel safe is equipped with a function called Automatic Relock. If someone tries to manually move the locking latch from the locked position, the safe will resist and move the latch back into locked position. This feature is designed for two purposes: 1. To improve the safe's break-in resistance. 2. To prevent the latch from being manually forced back to the open position when the safe is inadvertently locked with the door open. Forcing the latch open can cause the safe's electronics to malfunction and may require an emergency override or service call to correct the malfunction. The Automatic Relock function prevents this from happening, and forces the user to "open" the safe with their open code instead. 2.8 Serial number label Each safe has a unique serial number, which is printed on the label on the front, lower right hand side, of the safe. You may be required to give this number to a service technician if support is required. 3 INSTALLATION Warning! The Sentinel safe must be installed according to the instructions in the Sentinel Installation Manual. Failure to install the safe properly could jeopardize the security of safe and may present a safety hazard if the safe is accidentally pulled off the shelf onto the floor. Follow the installations exactly for security and safety! 4 EMERGENCY OPENING In case the open code is forgotten, contact SafeDecisions technical support at 1-800-SAFEDEC (800-723-3332) or www.safedec.com You will be able to get an emergency open code to open your safe. After opening the safe, you will be able to enter a new open code to unlock the safe. 2004 SafeDecisions L.P. & Elsafe International AS Page 5

5 MAINTENANCE The Sentinel Private safes require only battery replacement and some cleaning every once in a while to maintain its operation. Do not use any liquids, which can contaminate electronics while cleaning. Dry soft-cloth and vacuum cleaner is recommended as cleaning equipment. Batteries should be changed every two years to ensure reliable operation. 5.1 Battery replacement Notice! Use only Duracell or Energizer AA alkaline batteries for optimum performance. The batteries are situated behind the keyboard and can be changed even though the safe is locked. Although the wire between the keyboard and the CPU is flexible and designed to be moved around, care should be exercised when changing the batteries since damage to the keyboard cable might make it impossible to open the safe afterwards. Therefore, use caution when changing batteries on a locked safe. The keyboard unit is fastened to its compartment with six different snaps. Three on the top and three at the bottom. To remove the keyboard, you must loosen the top snaps as described in the following steps. Be careful when loosening the snaps to avoid damage on the plastic parts and the enamel paint on the door. NOTICE! 1. Start by loosening the left snap with a small flat screwdriver. Push the left side of the door handle gently to make the operation easier. 2. Next, loosen the center snap. Page 6 2004 by SafeDecisions L.P. & Elsafe International AS

3. Finally, loosen the right snap. 4. Once the top is loose, lean the faceplate forward and carefully push down to release the bottom three snaps. 5. The faceplate is now free and the batteries are exposed. 6. Turn the faceplate around to gain access to the batteries and replace them. 7. Note that the spring clip on each slot is the negative terminal of the battery Negative 2004 SafeDecisions L.P. & Elsafe International AS Page 7

8. Carefully turn the faceplate around and engage the three clips at the bottom. 9. After the bottom three snaps are locked, push on the top of the faceplate to engage the three top snaps. This completes the battery replacement procedure. Page 8 2004 by SafeDecisions L.P. & Elsafe International AS

The movement stops before the latch reaches the locked position, the safe waits for a few seconds and returns to open position. "Err" flashes on the display. When pressing Lock, there is no sound from the locking mechanism. After a few seconds, the safe displays "Err". 1. The locking latch is hitting the frame or another object is blocking the latch during it s travel to a locked position. 2. Battery voltage too low. The locking mechanism's motor not running. 1. Look for objects obstructing the locking latch travel. 2. Make certain the door is properly shut and try again. 3. Replace batteries. Contact SafeDecisions technical support. Safe will not open Symptom Cause Solution Safe displays "Err" when entering the open code. Incorrect open code Enter the correct open code. Safe displays flashing lines and tries to move the locking latch. After a few seconds it displays Err. Safe displays underscores. Safe displays a number between 30.00 and 00.00 that is counting down. The locking latch is stuck. Locking latch has not reached the open position. Safe is in a 30 minute safety countdown mode due to five incorrect open codes being entered in succession.
