Arab Atomic Energy Agency League of Arab States National Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies - Tunis 13 th Arab Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy Hammamet, Republic of Tunisia 18-22/12/2016 Organized by Arab Atomic Energy Agency in Collaboration with National Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies - Tunis

Introduction Themes of the conference Introduction Under the framework of the development of the peaceful uses of atomic energy in the Arab Countries, the Council of the League of Arab States issued successive resolutions (Khartoum 2006, Riadh 2007 and Damascus 2008) calling for cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy. These decisions were embodied in the "2020 Arab strategy for peaceful uses of nuclear energy" that was adopted by the Doha Summit 2009 to which the Arab Atomic Energy Agency developed, with Arab experts, a detailed action plan beginning of 2010. Scientific research in the field of peaceful atomic energy applications is among the key elements of this strategy for the improvement of the socio-economic and industrial developments in the Arab world. The Arab conference on the peaceful uses of atomic energy is an important landmark where Arab researchers and scientists meet to present the results of their scientific and applied research activities, to exchange views, experiences and to strengthen the bonds of cooperation in the joint development of scientific research.

In this context, the Arab Atomic Energy Agency organizes the thirteenth Arab conference on the peaceful uses of atomic energy in cooperation with the National Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies - Tunis, during the period of 18-22 December 2016. The sessions of the conference include scientific papers, in addition to invited specialized lectures submitted by Arab and International experts in the fields on themes of the conference, followed by panel discussions on topics of particular importance. Conference Themes 1 - Basic nuclear sciences (Physics Chemistry Biology) 2 Accelerators & nuclear reactors (Technologies Applications) 3 - Applications of radio-isotopes and Nuclear techniques (Nuclear medicine and radiotherapy Soil fertility Water resources management Plant production Pest control Food irradiation Industry NDT)

Contact 4 - Material sciences (Nuclear materials Nanotechnologies Neutron activation Radiochemical analysis Isotopes separation & ion implantation) 5 - Environmental studies (NORM Environmental pollution & environmental impact assessment) 6 - Nuclear safety and security (Radiation protection Nuclear waste management Risk assessment Dosimetry Physical protection of nuclear materials and nuclear facilities - Nuclear and radiological emergencies). The conference is open to participants from the Arab atomic energy institutions, universities, ministries of higher education, electricity, energy, health, environment and Arab institutions concerned with nuclear applications and nuclear regulatory authorities. The papers are accepted in the conference according to the following process : 1 Application for participation in the conference must be submitted no later than 15/9/2016 accompanied by a copy of the scientific paper, a copy on a compact disc (CD) and a copy of the participant s passport for non Tunisians, or sent via the e-mail of the conference : aaea@aaea.org.tn

2 A scientific committee will select the accepted papers in accordance with reviewers recommendations. The participants will be informed about the committee's decisions by 17/10/2016. 3 The travel expenses of participants are covered by their institutions. However, AAEA has limited funds to support some participants with accepted papers. 4 The Arab Atomic Energy Agency will cover the cost of accommodation and meals for the duration of the conference to participants with accepted papers.
