Instructions for In-the-Hoop Purse Supplies: Fabric for purse Lining for purse 7" zipper 1" wide Grosgrain Ribbon 5/8" wide Velcro 3/8" wide Grosgrain Ribbon - optional - this is for the strap, but the strap can be made from the purse fabric. *Note: I used denim/twill type fabric for the outside of the purse. If you use a regular weight cotton, you may want to back it with fusible pellon. Preparation: Purse Front: Cut one piece of fabric and one piece of lining 7 ½" high x 7" wide. Cut one piece of fabric and one piece of lining 2" high x 7" wide. Purse Back: Cut one piece of fabric and one piece of lining 9" high x 7" wide Cell Phone Pocket: Cut one piece of fabric 5 ½" high x 7" wide Cut one piece of lining 5" high x 7" wide To prepare the pocket, place the fabric and lining pieces right sides together, matching the upper long edge. Sew a 1/4" seam. Press the seam toward the lining. Center the soft Velcro piece along the top edge of the pocket, approximately 1/4" down from top edge. Sew in place using a zigzag stitch. Mark a line 1 ½" to the left and right of the center. Mark a second line ½" to the outside of each line. Fold and press along these lines forming two pleats.

Tab for Pocket: Cut one piece of Grosgrain ribbon 5" long. Cut a 3/4" piece of Velcro (soft & loopy pieces) Cut a piece of Steam-A-Seam 2 ½" x 7/8" To make the tab, take the 5" piece of ribbon and fold in half so it is 2 ½" in length. Press. Open the ribbon and place the loopy Velcro piece close to the outside fold line. On your sewing machine, using a zigzag stitch, sew the Velcro to the ribbon. Place the Steam-A-Seam piece on one half of the inside of the ribbon. Fold the ribbon and press to fuse the Steam-A- Seam. Purse Strap: Cut a piece of fabric 33" x 1 ½". Fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right side facing out. Press. Open the fabric and fold each long edge toward the center. Press. Fold together and press in place. On your sewing machine, top stitch, close to both long edges. *Note: 3/8" wide Grosgrain ribbon can be used for the strap. Spray starch the lighter weight fabrics. Purse Back Hoop tearaway stabilizer. 1. Stitch the first color. This is a positioning outline for the back fabric. Spray inside the outline with temporary spray adhesive and center the fabric over the outline. 2. Stitch the second color. This is a guideline for the ribbon tab. Lay the

ribbon tab over the guideline, Velcro side facing up and the raw edge of the ribbon extending below the line 1/4 inch. 3. Stitch the third color. This sews the ribbon tab to the purse back. Trim close to the stitching. 4. Stitch the fourth color. This is a satin stitch to finish the edge. 5. Stitch the fifth color. This is positioning lines for the cell phone pocket. Position the prepared pocket so the top edge is slightly below the top outline stitches and the left and right sides extend equally beyond the side outline stitching. Use tape to hold in place. Tape the top edge of the pleats so they don t get caught in the embroidery foot. 6. Stitch the sixth color. This is a zigzag stitch that will attach the pocket to the fabric. Remove the hoop and trim close to the stitching. 7. Stitch the last color. This is a satin stitch to finish the pocket edges. Remove the hoop from the machine and remove the stabilizer from the hoop. Tear away the stabilizer. Lay the purse back, right side down, on a work area and spray the back with temporary spray adhesive. Place the lining fabric on top, right side facing up. Purse Front Hoop tearaway stabilizer. 1. Stitch the first color. This stitches a placement outline for the fabric and the zipper. 2.< Zipper Placement

Place the hoop on a work area and place the closed zipper, face side up, with the zipper tongue on the right side so the zipper teeth are centered between the positioning lines. Both ends of the zipper will extend beyond the edges of the outline. Secure in place using tape. Stitch the second color. This sews the zipper to the stabilizer. The next steps will attach the fabric and the lining pieces below the zipper. 3. Place the hoop on a work area. Lay the 7 ½" x 7" front fabric piece, right side down, over the zipper matching the top edge of the fabric with the lower edge of the zipper tape. The bottom edge of the fabric will extend toward the top of the hoop. Use tape to hold in place. Turn the hoop over and repeat this step with the lining fabric. Stitch the third color. This stitches the fabric and lining to the zipper. 4. Remove the hoop from the machine and finger press the front fabric, only, away from the zipper. Leave the lining extending toward the top of the hoop. Stitch the fourth color. This stitches the lower purse front to the stabilizer. 5. Now embroider the design. When the design is finished, remove the hoop from the machine and turn the hoop over. Finger press the lining away from the zipper. The lining now covers the back of the embroidery. Hold in place with temporary spray adhesive. The next step with attach the fabric and lining above the zipper. 6. Place the hoop on a work area. Lay the 2" x 7" purse front fabric piece, right side down, over the zipper matching the lower edge of the fabric with the top edge of the zipper tape. Use tape to secure in place. Turn the hoop over and repeat this step with the lining fabric. Stitch the next color. This stitches the fabric and lining to the zipper. Remove the hoop from the machine and finger press the fabric and lining away from the zipper. Use tape to hold in place.

*Before proceeding, open the zipper 3/4 of the way. 7. Stitch the next color. This sews the purse front fabric and lining to the stabilizer. 8. Stitch the following color. This is the decorative stitch above and below the zipper. 9. Place the hoop on a work area. Lay the purse back and lining piece over the purse front. The lining will be facing up. Hold in place using tape. Stitch the next color. This stitches the back to the front below the zipper. 10. Remove the hoop from the machine and fold the upper portion of the purse back away from the zipper. Tape down to keep away from the stitching. Place the raw edges of the purse strap 1/4 inch above the stitching line for the top edge of the purse and in approximately ½ inch from the side edges. Hold in place with tape. Stitch the next color. This stitches the purse strap to the purse front. 11. Place the hoop on a work area. Push the strap down inside the purse. Pull the back upper section up over the front section and secure in place with tape. Stitch the next color. This stitches the upper portion of the purse front and back together. 12. Stitch the final color. This step puts a zigzag stitch around the purse. Remove the hoop from the machine and the stabilizer from the hoop. Tear away the stabilizer and trim seam to 1/4 inch. Through the zipper opening, turn the purse right side out. Press.
