Just the jean pockets can be combined with tote fabric to create purse flaps or pockets for two more purse ideas. 3 Page 2 BUCKET BAG 1. Cut four pieces 8 wide x 14 tall from blue jeans. Cut these pieces from the upper leg of jeans. Two of the pieces should include the back pockets. Cut 1 bottom 9 1/2 round (this piece may include a seam from the blue jeans, try to position the seam at the center of the circle. 2. Sew the pieces, with RST, along the long side of each piece, alternating a plain piece with a piece with a pocket. 7. Slip the lining into the jean bag. Handstitch the lining to the top of the jean bag with blue upholstery thread. 8. Cut a strip of blue jeans 4 wide x 36 long. Fold in half the long way, with RST, and sew as shown. 3. Fold the pieces in half and sew up the remaining side to form a tube. With RST, pin the bottom of the bag to the body of the bag. Sew the body to the bottom, easing to fit. Press top edge over to inside and topstitch in place. 4. Cut a piece of ticking 20 tall x 30 wide. Fold ticking in half and sew up the side to within 1 1/2 from the top. Cut a 9 1/2 circle of ticking for bottom. Turn right side out and topstitch as shown, turning the open end under. 9. Pin strap in place, as shown. Hand sew in place with upholstery thread. 5. Press top edge of ticking under 1/4 and then again 1/2. Sew along edge to form a casing. 10. String cording through casing, using a safety pin to guide, and draw closed. 6. Turn tube lining right side out and pin the right side of the bottom to the wrong side of the body, easing to fit. JEAN LINED LINEN BAG 1. Cut 2 pieces of linen 8 1/4 x 8 1/4. Cut 2 pieces of blue jeans 8 1/4 x 8 1/4. Cut 2 bag handles from the bottom rolled hem of the jeans and cut one back pocket from the jeans.

4 Page 3 2. Stitch flower detail on jean pocket with floss, using the lazy daisy stitch. Sew the button to the center of the flower. Machine stitch pocket to the center front of one of the linen pieces. TICKING POCKETBOOK 1. With RST, sew ticking at sides and bottom. Turn right side out. 3. With RST, stitch two linen pieces together, leaving the top open. Turn right side out and pin handles in place at either side, as shown. 2. With RST, sew jean pieces at sides only. 4. With RST, stitch two denim pieces at sides only. 3. Slip jean tube over the ticking bag, matching edges at top. Sew through both layers all the way around the top. Fold out. 4. Handstitch opening at bottom of jean tube closed with blue upholstery thread. 5. Slip jean tube over linen bag. Sew all the way around the top, catching the handles into the stitching. 6. Fold bag out and turn jean bottom under and handstitch closed. 5. To form the strap, press the length of the strap in half, right side out. Open strap and press each half in again. 7. Turn jean lining to the inside of the bag. Using three strands of floss and a running stitch, handstitch all the way around the top of the bag. 6. Top stitch, by machine, the length of the strap, as shown. Handstitch the strap to the inside of each side of the purse at seams.

5 Page 4 7. Lie the jean back pocket with ticking, handstitching all the way around. 8. Handstitch the top of pocket to the back top of the bag body. Fold pocket flap over the front. Enjoy!
