New In Aquatics NEW THIS SEASON: We re going badgeless! The best way to keep safe on and around the water is to learn how to swim, but that can be easier said than done. Learning to swim is hard work! Every child learns to swim at his or her own unique pace, depending on factors like their strength, size and body composition, coordination, endurance and comfort level in the water. It is common for children to take more than one nine week session to master skills and complete a level, but many children can become easily discouraged if they feel they have failed a level. In order to ensure that all children have a positive experience in swimming lessons and to help foster a lifelong love of aquatics, we encourage all parents and/or guardians to celebrate their child s personal achievement and effort rather than focusing on whether or not the child is ready to advance to the next level in the swim program. By celebrating a child s achievement while they master basic swimming skills, children of all ability levels have a chance to learn in a supportive environment that promotes a lifelong enjoyment of swimming. New this spring season, every swimming lesson participant registered in levels ranging from Preschool A to Swimmer 6 will receive a complimentary swim pass at the end of the session rather than a crest for those who have passed the level. The complimentary swim pass entitles that child to free entry at any Town of Halton Hills recreational swim (admittance policy and fees for additional swimmers still apply. See www.haltonhills.ca/recandparks/swimming for details). We hope this complimentary pass will encourage families to participate in a recreational swim, where they can help their child practice a new skill, have some fun and engage in unstructured play in the pool. Crests will remain available for purchase at all pool locations. NEW THIS SEASON NEW THIS SEASON Halton Hills Lifeguard Club The Halton Hills Lifeguard Club introduces youth to lifesaving sport, a dynamic and exciting sport which combines swimming, lifesaving, racing, simulated rescue and athletics. This program is ideal for youth who are motivated by healthy competition and training with teammates, or who are looking for an alternative to traditional swimming lessons. Participants register for a group based on their age, skill level and swimming experience. See page 21 for program schedule Masters Masters swimming is an opportunity to improve your fitness and swimming technique in a fun group setting. Work closely with a qualified coach who will create a customizable workout with drills and sets designed to help you become a faster and stronger swimmer. This is a great opportunity for cross-training and keeping active! Two sessions weekly. Discounted fees for those who register for both sessions! See page 21 for program schedule www.haltonhills.ca 7

Private backyard swimming pools are the number one aquatic setting where children under five years of age most often drown. Bathtubs also present a significant hazard for this age group. In one third of cases where children drown, their caregiver was absent or distracted and unable to help when needed. Call 905-873-2601 xt. 2701 and ask for a copy of our Backyard Pool Safety Guide to learn how to keep your family safe this summer. 16 Hotline 905.873.2601 Ext. 2275
