This fast-track MSc Financial Management is available only to qualified accountants and is designed to develop your expertise, influence and impact as a financial manager. As a qualified accountant you will be eligible for significant exemptions enabling you to take a fast route to the Masters. Building on the success of our well-established fast-track MSc Financial Management, we now also offer two specialist routes for professionals working in health, and in accounting education. Take your career to the next level Our fast-track MSc Financial Management is ideal for professionally qualified accountants who wish to gain a prestigious Master s while continuing in their professional role, as it involves minimal attendance at the Business School during the working week. The Professional Learning and Development route is delivered on-line, opening up the qualification to qualified accountants throughout the world. The programme is designed to enhance the depth, value and contemporary relevance of professional accounting qualifications. Whatever route you choose it will develop your knowledge and critical understanding of financial issues and enhance your personal, managerial, research and analytical skills. Through your dissertation project you will become a specialist in some aspect of your current career in the health sector, in education or other industry. The programme will contribute towards your career development and enable you to add significant value to your organisation at senior management level, by providing an opportunity for you to: l enhance your ability to contextualise, evaluate and communicate financial information l re-engage with the fundamentals of your profession l become a recognised expert in a specialist topic of your choosing l evaluate contemporary developments in context and prepare for future trends l build on your key transferable skills such as information accessing, analysis and interpretation, giving presentations and writing reports. 2

Financial Context and Contemporary Issues Research Methods Dissertation From April, you ll concentrate on your dissertation - an opportunity to explore an academic area, or practical problem from your workplace in-depth. The dissertation is normally between 12,000 and 15,000 words and you ll develop your theme with the guidance and support of a supervisor MSc Financial Management (Health Sector) fast-track The UK Government s focus on providing more health care services through a mixture of both public and private sector providers is changing the face of service provision and of financial management within the health care sector. Recognising the specialist professional development needs of practitioners working in this environment, this route is designed for qualified accountants working in the health sector. It will develop your ability to understand and evaluate: n performance management models in both the NHS and the private health sector n the impact of different organisational forms and managerial financial management and their application n implications for financial management in both the NHS and the private health sector. Modules The modules will, in total, involve around 70 hours attendance at the Business School, in evening sessions during the week from September to April Financial Context and Contemporary Issues Financial Management and Governance in the Health Sector Research Methods Dissertation From April, you ll concentrate on your dissertation - an opportunity to explore an academic area, or practical problem from your workplace in-depth. For the MSc Financial Management, and the MSc Financial Management (Health Sector) your study will combine seminars, student presentations, workshops and independent study. A choice of specialist fast-track routes MSc Financial Management (Professional Learning and Development) fast-track e-learning The recent rapid international growth in numbers of professional accountancy students has led to a demand for professional educators. The curricula of bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) require educators who are not only technically competent but who also can support students in developing an integrated, critical and reflective understanding of financial management. This challenging task is also faced by educators teaching accounting and finance degree courses. This route provides educators with the opportunity to develop their pedagogic skills and knowledge of the processes of teaching and learning, undertake research in this area and gain a prestigious Masters qualification via a fast-track route. This route is delivered online and is designed for qualified accountants, who are currently teaching undergraduate, postgraduate or professional accounting students. Modules Delivered through online distance learning from October. You will typically be able to complete these three modules by the end of May. Financial Context and Contemporary Issues Professional Learning and Development Research Methods Dissertation From April/May you ll concentrate on your dissertation - an opportunity to explore an area of accounting and finance education in-depth. The dissertation is between 12,000 and 15,000 words and you ll develop your theme with the guidance and support of a supervisor. This route is delivered on-line using a range of resources including an introductory written (or podcast) guide to each learning unit, a range of text and web-based resources, educational research papers available electronically through the UWE library and discussion boards. Feedback will be given through tutor e-moderation of discussions and regular question and answer forums. You will communicate electronically with your module leaders and supervisor, who will be on hand to provide academic support and guidance tailored to your needs.
