It has an outstanding reputation for the quality of its teaching and is developing a growing recognition as a centre of excellence in research of international standing. It is one of the most professionally respected real estate departments in the UK. The programmes offered by the Department are recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and the Department has established a formal partnership with them to provide specific programmes of study including undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, and professional training programmes. 3
DEPARTMENT OF REAL ESTATE AND CONSTRUCTION AT OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY Water Front, Hong Kong Asia Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA) The Asia Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA) is a non-profit industry association that represents and promotes the real estate asset class in the Asia Pacific region. It is the industry body for the suppliers and users of capital in the real estate sector. APREA embraces the four quadrants of real estate. APREA s mission is to: Represent and promote the Asia Pacific real estate asset class Encourage greater investment in the Asia Pacific real estate sector through the provision of better information to investors, improving the general operating environment, encouraging best practices and generally unifying and strengthening the industry Enhance regional and global networks for capital suppliers and users Represent the sector to governments and regulators to improve the commercial operating environment for members. It has over 190 active member organisations across all major economies in Asia Pacific, including China, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore. Its membership comprises real estate companies, listed real estate trusts, unlisted property funds, investment managers, investment banks, property securities fund managers, institutional investors, real estate consultants, corporate advisors, stockbrokers, investment advisors and universities. 4

The Certificate of Real Estate Investment Finance (CREIF) programme has been delivered in Asia since 2007 and is a unique programme combining distance learning with case study based workshops conducted by leading industry practitioners. CERTIFICATE OF REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT FINANCE Delegates at workshop Who teaches CREIF? CREIF is delivered by the Department of Real Estate and Construction at Oxford Brookes University in collaboration with the APREA Institute. The practitioners, who teach the CREIF programme, are made up from a pool of over 100 leading industry experts across Asia and the UK. After successfully completing the programme, delegates will receive the CREIF certificate issued by Oxford Brookes University in the UK. How will I learn? The majority of the study will be carried out via the Virtual Learning Platform, from which you can obtain home study learning materials for each of the four subject areas. There will also be an intensive two-day workshop for each subject area which will be delivered by practitioners locally. The four workshops will be spread over the eight-month period of the programme. Following each workshop, delegates will be required to submit a research task for assessment. When you have attended all four workshops, and passed your research tasks and major project assignment you will be eligible to receive the Certificate of Real Estate Investment Finance. 7

CREIF is an eight-month programme, however as it is designed for busy professionals, it s possible to extend the programme up to a maximum of two years. Where does the programme take place? The programme has been designed so that you can start at any point during the year there is no need to take the subject areas in order. The majority of the teaching is conducted online using a designated online platform, while the assessment workshops are carried out locally. The flexibility of the CREIF programme means that if you travel for business, you can attend the workshops in any of the following locations: Hong Kong Kuala Lumpur Shanghai Singapore 8
CERTIFICATE OF REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT FINANCE What will happen after I complete the programme? Once you successfully complete the CREIF programme, you may wish to consider further study. Providing you have several years experience in the real estate industry, there is also the opportunity to apply for the Qualifying Certificate in Advanced Valuation. This programme is offered by the Department of Real Estate and Construction at Oxford Brookes University in partnership with RICS. Successful completion of the Qualifying Certificate gives direct entry to the final RICS interview to become a member of the RICS (MRICS). The Qualifying Certificate is a four-month programme based around the virtual learning environment at Brookes which offers self-paced interactive learning. There are also locally based, intensive, face-to-face assessment sessions each month during the programme and these run over extended weekends.
