FAGOR Absolute Linear Encoders Absolute linear encoders offer an accurate, fast and direct method to achieve positional data immediately without the need for machine references. Sub micron absolute positional data is generated using both a coded (pseudo-random) track and an incremental track. POSITION DATA INSTANTLY ON MACHINE POWER-UP FAGOR absolute encoders provide positional data from the moment the machine is turned on and also on request from the CNC. This results in more efficient operation and removes any need for home switches on the machine. DIGITAL COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL Fagor offer two openly available protocols for the transmission of the positional data. One is the industry standard SSI and the other is the specially designed FeeDat FeeDat (FEEDBACK DATA) An open, bi-directional protocol especially designed for OEMs. The protocol permits high level communication between the encoder and the controller allowing both system data and user defined data to be transmitted either synchronously or asynchronously. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION IRED Incremental track Absolute track Glass scale Cursor Absolute sensor SSI (SERIAL SYNCHRONOUS INTERFACE) This industry standard protocol is widely used in many control applications. As slight variations may exist between applications Fagor offer a configuration program that allows the OEM to configure the encoder parameters to suit their application. Photo detectors Graticule The linear encoder has two different engravings: one incremental and one absolute. The absolute position is calculated using both graduations. TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS Accuracy grades of up to ± 3 µm. Resolutions up to 0.1 µm (0.000004 ). Maximum speed of 120 m/min. (396 ft/min). Protocols: SSI and FeeDat. SSI code: binary or gray. Transmission through RS 485/422. Cable length up to 150 m. CONFIGURATION SOFTWARE AND USB INTERFACE ADAPTER The FAGOR absolute linear encoder may be connected to a PC through the USB port to carry out tasks such as setup, diagnosis or display the position of the axes on the PC monitor.
FAGOR EXPOSED linear encoders FAGOR exposed linear encoders offer high accuracy solutions for high speed applications. The main factors which determine this are: The scales are non contact and of reduced dimensions. Signals are generated using an optically reflective, single field system. These aspects make them ideal for applications where accuracy, speed and dynamic characteristics are essential factors for succesful operation of the system. FEATURES Electronics built into the reader head. Synchronised optical reference mark (Io). Single-window scanning. Several reference-mark options. Compact reader head. Excellent dynamic characteristics. Several mounting options. High immunity against electrical noise. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION FORMATS FAGOR exposed linear encoders come in three formats: Adhesive steel tape. Tape on aluminum guide. Tensioned steel tape. FAGOR exposed linear encoders use a reflective, single field scanning process whereby infrared light is reflected off a graduated steel scale. READER-HEAD DIMENSIONS 19 (0.784) 46 (1.81) TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS Optical measuring technology. ±5 µm accuracy. 20 µm graduation pitch. Feedrate of up to 8 m/sec. Vibration resistance up to 20 g. FAGOR ANGULAR Encoders The range of angular encoders from Fagor provides ideal solutions for applications where high accuracy angular control is critical. Fagor offer three series of angular encoders, the D90, D170 and D200 to cover a wide variety of applications. Accuracy grades range from ±5 arc-second to ±1 arc-second and mechanical designs allow various mounting options and tolerances. FAGOR ROTARY Encoders Fagor offer a range of rotary encoders to provide solutions for applications in which it is necessary to compliment high accuracy linear and angular positional data with velocity and positional data from rotary sources. The range offers a wide variety of line counts, signals and mounting options allowing the rotary encoders to be incorporated into a diverse range of applications. SIGNAL QUALITY FAGOR rotary encoders use patented designs and technologies to generate high-quality signals that may be interpolated to obtain resolutions of up to 0.00005º. This allows the encoders to provide high positional control which is only possible with optical technology. MEASURING PROCESS Photo detectors Graticule Lens IRED TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS Optical measuring technology Differential TTL and 1 Vpp Sinusoidal signals Synchronised reference marks (Io): Incremental and distance-coded Detachable cable Sealing standard IP64 Excellent dynamic characteristics (Vibration, speed, shock etc ). Graduated glass disk Reference mark FAGOR rotary and angular encoders use a transmission process whereby infrared light is transmitted through a graduated glass disk.
Reliability through technology OPTICAL DESIGN Fagor use both optical transmission and reflection in their range of encoder products. By incorporating innovative new scanning techniques such as Fagor s patented three-phase system and the single-field system and by using specially developed optical receivers it is possible to achieve high quality signals which can be interpolated to achieve sub micron resolutions with minimal interpolation error (<2%). MECHANICAL DESIGN Fagors mechanical developments over the past 30 years have resulted in some of the most innovative and effective methods for minimising the effects of harsh operating environments often encountered in machine tool applications. Research into the dynamic, thermal and environmental behaviour of measuring systems have resulted in levels of reliability and performance previously unseen in linear and angular encoders. ELECTRONIC DESIGN State of the art electronics create a perfect relationship between the reader head and scale and automatic gain control further ensures constant signal characteristics allowing high resolutions to be obtained with less than 2% interpolation errors. All models comply to industry standards and their signals, protocols and hardware allow compatibility with a host of applications. ACCURACY CERTIFICATE Every single FAGOR linear and angular encoder product is subjected to a final accuracy test. The tests are conducted in a climate-controlled chamber at a temperature of 20 ºC (68 ºF) and results are included with each product. The patron for all tests is a laser interferometer.
