How is an attachment shown? Any attachment in MindView is shown by a paperclip on the branch that it is attached to. By hovering over this you can see all the files attached to the branch and also the type of file that it is. Adding a Numbering Scheme Before exporting your mind map it is important to understand how the order in which the mind map will be exported. MindView exports in a clockwise direction from 12 o clock. To make this clearer you are able to launch the numbering scheme on the ribbon. To do this: 1. Select Numbering Scheme from the ribbon. 2. The numbering scheme will group main branches and sub branches into chapters and sub chapters. Re-arranging the mind map Once you have launched the numbering scheme you can re-arrange your mind map. Both main branches and sub branches can be easily moved prior to exporting by dragging and dropping the branch you wish to move into the appropriate place. A preview of the move will be displayed on the screen. As you move branches the number of the chapter or sub chapter will change accordingly. studentsupport.ulster.ac.uk Page 8

Go to the MindView button 2. Scroll down to export 3. Choose the programme you wish to export to. Quick or advanced exports MindView allows students to control the look and feel of their external documents. A Quick Export will give them a default setting in the external programme, which in this case is Microsoft Word. If students wish to have more control over the document they should select the Advanced Word Export. studentsupport.ulster.ac.uk Page 9

Advanced Export When selecting the Advanced Export you get a choice of templates that you can use. You can also choose which objects from your mind map that you wish to be placed in the final document. This allows you to have visuals on the mind map but not in the final document which would be submitted for assessment. Table of Contents In Microsoft Word, the document will be produced with a fully interactive table of contents. Importing from Microsoft Word Editing the external document Once you have exported your document to an external programme you are able to edit your document as normal. However MindView has a unique feature that you can not only export to external programmes but also import from them. This allows a student to choose where they want to add content but be able to ensure that they can keep all the information consolidated in the one mind map. studentsupport.ulster.ac.uk Page 10

Importing into MindView To import an external document into MindView: 1. Ensure that the document contains headings similar to that in the export style. 2. Changes in MindView Any editing to your external document will be represented as a text note in MindView. To access them simply hover over the branch paperclip and you will be able to see them. This unique feature allows students to have full control over the documents and be able to re-arrange paragraphs and chapters using a visual mind map. Creating Timelines Launching the Timeline Tab The timeline tab can be found on the right hand side of your screen. (Beside where the media viewer would be launched.) studentsupport.ulster.ac.uk Page 11
