Mark your Calendar: El Patio Hotel Grand Opening on April 28 Adopt a Room! Mark your calendars for the Grand Opening of the El Patio Hotel, 167 Palm Street in
downtown Ventura on Thursday, April 28 at 11 a.m. Join us for the tours, ribbon- cutting, celebration, and light buffet lunch following. Peoples' has carefully restored this 1927 Spanish Colonial- style hotel. The 11,741 sq. ft. renovation retains the original architectural aspects of the building and provides much- needed affordable housing with accompanying supportive services for low income individuals, seniors, and special needs residents in 41 single rooms. Sixteen rooms are set aside for formerly homeless individuals referred by Ventura County Behavioral Health Dept. We are looking for 41 organizations, businesses or individuals to adopt each resident room. Sponsors are needed to pay for move- in kits for new residents. $350 pays for a bed, sheets, blanket, pillow, towels, dishes, and toiletries. Help a low income or formerly homeless resident move into permanent affordable housing. Your name will be proudly displayed outside your 'adopted' room at the Grand Opening. Donate on- line, email info@pshhc.org, or call (805) 962-5152 x227. Education Trailer Moves on Wings of Love All Saints by- the- Sea Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara has stepped forward to help move the Youth Education trailer from the Camper Park to the Chapel Court Apartments in Carpinteria. The leased 10x40- foot trailer will be used as community space and after- school education for 50 children at Chapel Court. With many Camper Park families relocated to other permanent affordable housing with Peoples', the Church identified a better use for the trailer at Chapel Court, about 1/8 mile away.
Volunteer Jeanice 'Grandma' Lugo has been providing after school homework help outdoors on picnic tables. The plan is to hire a part- time educator to work with Grandma. Funds for this position would come from the proceeds of last year's 40th Anniversary and All Saints. A celebration BBQ lunch is planned on move day that involves volunteers, staff, residents, elected officials, and parishioners in the spirit of building community. Trees Beautify Goleta Apartment Complex Thank you to the volunteers who contributed 15 community service hours at Goleta Valley Beautiful's Storke Ranch Apartments tree- planting event in Feburary. On a blustery President's Day weekend, five volunteers managed to plant seven infill trees. The tree species included Coast Live Oak, Valley Oak, Island Oak, and Eastern Redbud. Volunteer groups represented were Santa Barbara High School, UCSB Honors, and Goleta Valley Beautiful. Is a Gift of Real Estate Right for You? A gift of real estate to PSHH may be right for you if... You hold residential, commercial or undeveloped real estate that has risen in value and that you no longer wish to maintain. You are concerned about rising real estate taxes and the capital gains cost of selling the property. The property is useful to our mission or is marketable, and it is environmentally secure. Peoples' Self- Help Housing is happy to consider gifts of residential, commercial and undeveloped real estate. As with donations of other types of appreciated property, gifts of real estate secure a charitable income tax deduction for you, based on the fair market value of the property, with no capital gains liability for the transfer to us. If you would like to advance the mission of Peoples' Self- Help Housing of providing affordable housing and programs leading to self- sufficiency, please contact Rochelle Rose CFRE, Director of Development, at (805) 962-5152 x227 or email rocheller@pshhc.org.
