What is Career testdrive? How Do I Get Involved in Career testdrive? Who Benefits? An opportunity for youth in Strathcona County to testdrive a chosen career. Youth will research a career that they are interested in and then testdrive it with an employer from the community through job shadowing. Students who have well researched and well defined career goals have greater success in completing their education as it moves them closer to achieving their goals. Youth/Parents/Families- testdrive a career, learn about Career Research, and resources available to them for careers, employment and education. Employers- because they will have an opportunity to contribute to the community, have impact on future labor needs, support youth in the community and strengthen relationships with other community partners. Community- improved partnerships among community agencies and partners, supports high school graduation and encourages youth to return to the community once education is completed. Employers If you would like to be considered as a Workplace Role Model and have a youth come and Job Shadow with you, please contact: Strathcona County Alberta Works office Kristy Tuts, Career and Employment Consultant at 780 417-2494 Sherwood Park Chamber of Commerce at 780 464-0801 Youth Youth can go to a school counselor or Alberta Works office to be referred to the program. The Career testdrive program will accept up to 20 youth for Fall 2012 with future opportunities come the Winter 2013 season. They will be required to complete research on their chosen Career, through which they will also be provided with resources and information on careers, employment and education. A Career testdrive job shadow activities package will be given to all counselors for interested youth to complete prior to arrangements are made with employers. Once the job shadow activity package is completed, the school counselor will refer the youth to meet with a Career and Employment Consultant, from Alberta Works, who will work with the community partners and business community to find the right employer for job shadow. At the job shadow, the youth will have the opportunity to observe and ask questions about the chosen Career.
