The installation of options and routine maintenance and service of this product must be performed by individuals who are knowledgeable about the procedures, precautions, and hazards associated with AC power products. Follow these safety precautions when connecting multiple pieces of information technology equipment to power products. The input power cord must be securely attached and it should be connected to the AC mains by hardwiring or through the use of a nonresidential, industrial-style plug that maintains positive earth connection. If the total system leakage current through the ground conductor exceeds five percent of the input current per line under normal operating conditions, the system loads should be divided among multiple power connections. Kit Contents The following hardware pieces are included: One single PDU North America and Japan Model S1140 S1324 -or- One single PDU International Model S1132 S1316 -or- One dual PDU North America and Japan Model S2140 S2324 -or- One dual PDU International Model S2132 S2316 Power cord retention bands 5.5 mm x 12 mm self-tapping screws Extra hardware might be included for your convenience. Required Tool You will need a Phillips screwdriver. WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from high-leakage current, verify earth connection before connecting the power supply. The summation of input power for multiple pieces of information technology equipment through the use of power products can result in high-leakage currents. If the total system leakage current for a system of components exceeds 3.5 ma: The use of a detachable input power cord is prohibited.

Installing the HP Power Distribution Unit with Power Monitoring in the Standard Mount Position 1. Slide the tabs on the PDU mounting bracket into the rack frame. 2. Insert three screws, securing the PDU to the rack frame. 3. Attach the device power cords to the PDU.

4. (Optional) Wrap a power cord retention band around each power cord, and insert the end of the power cord retention band into the appropriate slot on the PDU mounting bracket. NOTE: Firmly pull the power cord retention bands tight, paying special attention not to sever them. 5. Plug the PDU power cords into the appropriate power outlets. NOTE: Be sure that the circuit breakers are in the off position before attaching the power cords to the power outlets.

6. Power on the PDU breakers. Installing the HP Power Distribution Unit with Power Monitoring in an Alternative Mount Position 1. Remove the five screws securing each mounting bracket to the PDU. NOTE: For single PDUs, be sure that the five screws, on the side of the unit without a mounting bracket, are also removed.

2. Rotate the PDU 180 degrees, so that the power cords are now at the top of the rack. 3. Reattach each mounting bracket to the PDU using the same five screws from step 1. NOTE: For single PDUs, be sure that the five screws from step 1, are inserted into the side of the unit without a mounting bracket. 4. Continue to "Installing the HP Power Distribution Unit with Power Monitoring in the Standard Mount Position (on page 3)." Checking the Circuit Breakers If power to a device is interrupted, check the circuit breakers and reset them if necessary. If power is still not restored, contact your HP authorized service representative.

Front Panel Display Overview The PDU front panel has a two-digit, LED display that shows the current in each circuit breaker, a scroll button to scroll through values, and six LEDs, which indicate current overloads and voltage out of range conditions. During the power-on process or after a power restart, all of the indicators on the front panel display are illuminated for a minimum of two seconds to verify operation (the bicolor LEDs are switched every second during this verification process). NOTE: Each load segment is associated with one circuit breaker. For NA/JPN three-phase models, each load segment is fed by one pair of phase conductors. For International three-phase models; each load segment is fed by one phase conductor and the neutral conductor. Front Panel Display Components Callout Description 10 Scroll button 11 Seven segment LED numeric display Inverting the Numerical Display If you are mounting the PDU in the rack with the breakers at the top, press and hold the scroll button for over three seconds to invert the seven-segment display 180 degrees. HP Power Distribution Unit with Power Monitoring Normal Operating Conditions The dual seven-segment display shows the current in the load segment selected. For current values above one Amp, the value is displayed without a decimal point. For example, one Amp is displayed using only the right-most digit. During normal conditions, all load segment LEDs are illuminated green. The illuminated green LED corresponding to the load segment currently being displayed flashes. If an alarm condition exists, the load LED for that load segment is not illuminated green, but rather amber or red. After five minutes of inactivity, if no alarms are present, the front panel display begins to automatically scroll through the load segments. Inactivity is defined as no user inputs for example, not pushing the scroll button, for five minutes. When the unit is automatically scrolling through each load segment the current displays for three seconds before switching to the next segment. When the scroll button is pushed during the automatic function, the automatic function is terminated until the five-minute criteria for automatic scrolling is met again. HP Power Distribution Unit with Power Monitoring Alarm Operating Conditions The following alarm conditions are indicated by flashing alarm LEDs on the front panel display: Callout Description 1 Reset button 2 Local configuration port ( O O 1) 3 Green load segment LED (L3) 4 Green load segment LED (L2) 5 Green load segment LED (L1) 6 Amber/red alarm load segment LED (L3) 7 Amber/red alarm load segment LED (L2) 8 Amber/red alarm load segment LED (L1) Current Overload Overload Current greater than 102% of allowed maximum per load segment (red alarm LED) If an overload condition exists, the corresponding load segment LED with the alarm condition is illuminated red, while the green load segment LED for that particular load segment is not illuminated. Load Warning Current greater than 80%, but less than 102%, of allowed maximum per load segment (amber alarm LED) If a load warning condition exists, the corresponding load segment LED with the alarm condition is illuminated amber, while the green load segment LED for that particular load segment is not illuminated. 9 Remote communication port ( O O 2)

Voltage Out of Range Overvoltage of 10% to 20% (amber alarm LED), overvoltage of greater than 20% (red alarm LED) Undervoltage of 10% to 20% (amber alarm LED), undervoltage of more than 20% (red alarm LED) When an alarm condition occurs, the front panel display automatically changes to show the circuit with the alarm condition regardless of the present display setting. The automatic scrolling function is disabled when an alarm condition exists. If an alarm condition displays and you scroll to display another circuit that does not have an alarm condition present, the circuit without an alarm is displayed for 10 seconds and then switches back to the alarmed circuit. If an alarm condition displays and you scroll to another circuit with an alarm condition, the display remains on the last circuit selected with an alarm until the alarm condition clears or you scroll to a different circuit. If multiple circuits have alarm conditions at the same time, the last circuit to activate an alarm is displayed.
