Sarah s Story I was born into chaos, says Sarah a recovering addict. Raised by parents who abused alcohol, Sarah started drinking and doing drugs at a young age. She spiraled further downward after her brother also an addict was murdered. Sarah s response to this tragedy was to increase her use of methamphetamine. I went from being a recreational drug user to using every day, she recalls. I needed it to stay numb. With the help of case managers and therapists from Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network (ADMHN) as well as other community programs, Sarah slowly found her way out of the chaos. Once accurately diagnosed, Sarah began taking medication. She participated in intensive treatment and relapse prevention programs. When she had a mental health crisis, she was admitted to ADMHN s Bridge House Acute Treatment Unit. Through case management, she learned how to manage her medicines, and also learned the many skills needed to transition to independent living. Once Sarah was able to get an apartment of her own, she adopted a dog who has become her constant companion and a source of great comfort. Sarah admits that staying drug-free will be a challenge for the rest of my life. But this time, she s ready. I use the skills I learned at all of these programs to stay sober. Sarah s goal both professional and personal is to share her story with others. She is working toward becoming a therapist, and is developing a formal program to empower others. Sarah is looking forward to helping others enjoy a brighter future. I use the skills I learned at all of these programs to stay sober.

A leader in addiction treatment Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network serves both adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse issues by providing a broad range of comprehensive services that lead to recovery. While mental illness and addiction may appear to be independent of one another, the reality is that mental illness and substance abuse together, sometimes make recovery a greater challenge. The end result is often a vicious cycle. We can help. Individualized Treatment Plan Clinicians partner with individuals to develop a treatment plan a roadmap to recovery. This custom plan helps to guide clients through the recovery process by creating and setting short and long-term personal goals and building the skills needed to achieve them. Comprehensive Treatment Services Our network of services, which includes individual, group and family therapy, case management, psychiatric evaluation, and ongoing medication management, is accessible to all clients. Drug testing is also available for clients in treatment, as well as 24-hour emergency coverage for those who may need crisis intervention. Case Management Case management further strengthens the progress made in treatment by meeting the specialized needs of each individual. It is a collaborative effort between the client, the treatment team and a network of community providers. Case managers ensure continuity of care by assessing specific client needs and connecting clients to other services, as appropriate. Medication Services Prescription medications may be a recommended part of treatment following an assessment with a psychiatrist. If this is the case, pyschiatric providers will work with clients and their clinicians to identify the most effective medications with the greatest benefits. For added convenience, our pharmacy delivers to all treatment locations. Relapse Prevention Throughout the process of recovery, individuals will work to identify triggers, learn new skills and acknowledge personal strengths, resulting in the foundation of a relapse prevention plan.

Adult Treatment Since 1977, Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network has been effectively treating adults who are dually diagnosed; that is, those who are faced with both mental illness and addiction. As the first outpatient program in Colorado to intergrate treatment for both substance abuse and mental health issues, our program focuses on treating each individual s underlying mental illness and substance abuse problem at the same time. This approach encourages a more successful recovery. Dual Diagnosis Our intensive programs combine behavioral therapy with education about addiction, recovery, and the strong connections that exist between substance abuse and mental illness. Group Therapy Our groups offer individuals the opportunity to build skills alongside other adults who are working on similar issues. The small interactive setting provides support and socialization while helping to reduce the isolation and guilt individuals commonly experience. This format promotes encouragement in one s own recovery. Integrated Care Our Be Well Primary Care Clinic provides physical exams and testing, monitoring of ongoing medical conditions, and medical education. The medical staff works closely with the mental health staff to provide this coordinated care. Services especially for women, moms, and expectant mothers Our case management services and mental health treatment options are designed to meet the special treatment needs of pregnant women and mothers. We work hard to make sure pregnant women and mothers can quickly access treatment. Call 303 730 8858 and let them know you fall in this category for a priority appointment. Traditional substance abuse treatment is also available to individuals who do not have a mental illness. The recovery process takes time, but you have the courage and we have the expertise to help you build a more promising future.

Adolescent Treatment Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network provides services to teens struggling with substance abuse by focusing on a collaborative treatment effort involving the teen s family. Whether a teen is experimenting with substances or an addiction is controlling an individual s life, we re here to help. Break the Cycle of Addiction The adolescent substance abuse treatment program helps break the cycle of addiction by partnering with the family and youth s supports. From individual therapy to group and family sessions, we can provide the right support for each individual. Offered through the Child & Family Services team, this program is designed to address the unique emotional and behavioral needs of pre-teens and teenagers abusing or experimenting with substances. Working Together Toward Recovery We will help determine the nature and severity of substance abuse. We ll explore family dynamics and different communication styles. Together, we ll develop a plan to eliminate self-defeating substance abuse behaviors. We ll provide drug and alcohol education. We ll teach skills to maintain sobriety improving self-esteem and building coping skills. And, we ll coordinate other treatment if needed (such as psychiatry, case management and inpatient services) within our network and through linked services. Traditional substance abuse treatment is also available to individuals who do not have a mental illness. Live clean. Be sober.
