2016-2017 Season # 33 Variety is the spice of life and this coming season has it in abundance. CEFC is essentially a symphonic choir and the works by Brahms, Prokofiev and Holst are perfectly suited to us. But we also like to venture out to the extremes of earlier Baroque music and contemporary commissions with Vivaldi, Bach and Roland Perrin. Each concert has something for everyone. Swan Song Erica Eloff soprano Benjamin Appl baritone London Mozart Players David Temple Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem R Strauss Vier letzte Lieder Gibbons The Silver Swan Friday 21 October 2016 CEFC presents Swan Song, a moving meditation on the end of life, with soprano Erica Eloff and baritone Benjamin Appl, a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. Orlando Gibbons s wistful madrigal The Silver Swan, based on the myth that the swan only sings when death is near, contrasts with the warm, autumnal glow of Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss, sung here by Erica Eloff. The concert concludes with Brahms s monumental A German Requiem, arguably the greatest requiem of them all. 28 24 18 12.50 (plus booking fee) cefc.org.uk

JS Bach St John Passion Sung in English St John s Smith Square Saturday 1 April 2017 Robert Murray Evangelist Andrew Ashwin Christ Grace Davidson soprano Robin Blaze counter-tenor Nicholas Mulroy tenor Ben Davies bass Bach Camerata David Temple The essence of J.S. Bach s St John Passion with its extraordinary beauty, profundity and visceral energy is the communication of a human story. This is at the heart of CEFC s interpretation of the work. Using Neil Jenkins s sensitive translation into English, the true horror and pathos of the story of the Passion is communicated directly from the mouths of the singers to the ears and hearts of the listening audience. 28 24 18 12.50 (plus booking fee) Box office: 020 7222 1061 sjss.org.uk
Lansky: The Mob s Money Man Roland Perrin & The Blue Planet Orchestra David Temple conductor Rachel Sutton jazz singer Allan Corduner narrator JS Bach Jazz Arrangements Cadogan Hall Saturday 1 July 2017 Jazz composer and pianist Roland Perrin creates a vivid portrait of notorious New York mobster Meyer Lansky, dubbed The Mob s Accountant. Perrin combines American and Latino jazz styles with Jewish Klezmer motifs, all of which conjure up the sounds of New York at the height of the jazz age and the steamy decadence of Havana in the 1950s. This is the second performance of Perrin s work, commissioned and first performed by Crouch End Festival Chorus in 2015. It is complemented by the composer s beautiful arrangements for jazz trio and chorus of pieces by J.S. Bach. 28 24 18 10 (plus booking fee) Box office: 020 7730 4500 cadoganhall.com
