Community sector leadership development program Nous Group, in partnership with VICSERV, is pleased to offer a peer-based development program for leaders within the community managed mental health sector. Victoria s community managed mental health (CMMH) sector annually provides services to more than 20,000 clients, employs more than 1,600 people and attracts more than $125 million in state and federal funding. The sector is grappling with unprecedented reform and a series of significant challenges, including increased and changing demand, and workforce and service delivery pressures. Leaders within the sector must respond to these reforms and challenges whilst transforming their organisations and people to successfully deliver results. Nous, in partnership with VICSERV, have developed a leadership program specifically aimed at developing leaders in this sector. Program aim Organisational success is based on many interdependent factors, including: effective strategy, strong governance and financial management, clear organisational objectives and motivated staff. Leaders play a critical role in ensuring these factors are aligned to deliver optimal staff, team and organisational performance and success. This program has been specifically designed to assist community managed mental health service leaders develop their leadership capability, strategic governance and planning, feedback and coaching skills, and strengthen peer networks within the sector to ensure organisational success. Program benefits This program will assist CMMH leaders to develop their leadership capability and stronger peer networks within the sector. Testimonials from past participants Thoroughly informative and practical program - I know that I will use key learnings in the workplace. I learned a lot from the case studies and group activities and opportunities to mix between peer group and others. Great feedback from our people all of our leaders should do it. Our participants said that the program was engaging, informative, created the right mix of theory and practice and we have seen real change back in the workplace. It really delivered results; there should be more programs like this one! Program elements Early August 29-30 August 2-3 October 29 November VICSERV office Level 2, 22 Horne Street Elsternwick, Victoria 3185 Nous Group office Level 10, 485 Bourke Street Melbourne, Victoria 3000 Nous Group office Level 10, 485 Bourke Street Melbourne, Victoria 3000 Briefing pack The program will be kicked-off by the distribution to participants of a comprehensive briefing pack. This will provide participants with an understanding of the program objectives, each of its elements, and to virtually meet the program s key facilitators and coaches. 360 feedback survey and debrief Self-awareness is a crucial ingredient to success in all disciplines, and this is especially true in leadership. Reflecting this, the program uses a proven 360 feedback leadership diagnostic tool element. This tool has been developed and used by Nous in scores of leadership programs. It demonstrably increases awareness, which facilitates personalised development planning and execution. The online survey targets key leadership behaviours and provides a detailed report highlighting responses unanimously. The survey is debriefed with an expert Nous consultant, providing insight for the participants development plan and a platform for development through-out all other elements of the program. Workshop 1: Leadership for you and your organisation The first of the two two-day workshops focuses on (1) improving participants understanding of some the key adaptive and strategic challenges facing their organisations and the CMMH sector, and (2) deepening their understanding of their own leadership style. Most importantly it will explore how this understanding can be used to achieve results. The two days will be an opportunity to develop a number of key leadership skills including building engagement with staff and other stakeholders. Participants will also commence planning and work on their individual leadership challenges and personal development plans. Workshop 2: Creating high performance for your team and your organisation The second of the two workshops will focus on creating high performance within teams and organisations. Day one will consider the mechanics and dynamics of building teams and some practical tools and techniques leaders can use to achieve high performance. The second day of the workshop, centred around a panel discussion with three respected leaders from the CMMH sector, explores the theory and reality of building high performing organisations. The leadership challenge Nous is keenly aware that for programs to be successful real application of learning and behavioural transformation must occur. To set this program up for success, participants will nominate a discrete workplace project or challenge that will become the vehicle for applying the key learnings from the program. nousgroup.com.au Community sector leadership development program Peer groups Nous has found that peer groups can significantly enhance the learning experience and enjoyment of leadership programs. At the briefing day participants will self-nominate into groups of three or four. These peer groups will subsequently meet at regular intervals throughout the program to support each other on their development journey and the execution of their individual leadership challenges. The results day, conducted two to three months after workshop two, is designed to develop participants ability to connect with stakeholders through story-telling and other forms of communication. Communication frameworks and practice is explored and applied to the participants individual leadership development journey over the life of the program. The day concludes with participants presenting the success they have achieved through the program and the completion of their leadership challenge to their peers. Individual coaching sessions The program is supported and complimented by two one-hour executive coaching sessions. The sessions, conducted by an Expanding Horizons executive coach with many years experience working and coaching in the CMMH sector, will provide an invaluable development opportunity for each participant. At the conclusion of the program, participants will have the option of continuing the coaching sessions.
