Professional learning can then be tailored to meet this specific need. This program has unquestionably helped me to become a better educator and I m excited to see where my independent research and position paper will affect change in my diocese. 4 Message from Philomena Billington, Facilitator The inaugural EDEL program (2015) expertly aligned professional leadership development with the vision and mission of Catholic education. Over six months, I was excited to see each of the 23 senior leaders respond to innumerable rich educational experiences, challenges and learnings, to support them on their respective leadership journeys. The structure of the five-phased program enabled a Professional Learning Community of Leaders to emerge - often not possible in either school or system leadership settings. Having developed close working relationships with participants, I can attest that the International Benchmarking Study Tour to the USA and Canada was a definite highlight of the program. It was rewarding to hear each of the participants synthesise their professional experience, independent research and program inspired learning, to form change-focussed position papers. The papers, presented formally at a graduation reception, were testament to the internationally benchmarked QELi program, and the growth of each of the participants. I look forward to facilitating the program with the 2016 cohort. Message from Pam Betts, Executive Director Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Brisbane At the heart of all we do in Catholic education is the student. We have high expectations for learning that maximise engagement, progress and achievement for each student across our community of schools. Keeping an eye on this priority and creating the optimum conditions for learning within the complex demands on schools requires visionary and proactive leadership. In particular, QELi s Executive Development for Educational Leaders program, for leaders within the Catholic Sector, is very exciting with great relevance for contemporary leaders in our schools. Its design and delivery, drawing on current research and good practice both here and overseas, is innovative, collegial and targeted to those leading a Catholic school community. I look forward to continuing our relationship with QELi through this professionally focussed initiative, and supporting the ongoing development of the leaders and aspiring leaders in our schools. Message from Dr Stephen Brown, CEO, QELi The Catholic schooling system has a long and very proud tradition of delivering exceptional education for all young people based on a distinctive vision and set of values. It is one of the jewels in the crown of the Catholic community. Like all schooling sectors, the Catholic sector has much to celebrate but equally the sector, like others, is not immune to a number of challenges. This executive development program is an exciting initiative of Brisbane Catholic Education, on behalf of the dioceses throughout Australia. QELi is delighted to again be working in partnership with the sector on this ground-breaking executive leadership development program. About QELi All QELi programs are informed by and respond to the pressing needs of schools, systems and sectors. Programs are delivered in central locations and remotely, with the variety of modes of program delivery allowing reach and mentor participation for a wide geographic spread. All programs align with the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership s (AITSL) Australian Professional Standard for Principals. How to Apply The first step is to discuss with your Diocesan Director and gain their endorsement. You will be expected to be a member of a syndicate from your Diocese. Each group should be made up of at least one system leader from the respective Diocesan Office. The program is limited to 30 participants and indications are that these will be filled quickly. Subject to interest, an additional program may be offered. Please fill out the attached nomination form and to Karrissa Wright at QELi at wrightk@qeli.qld.edu.au by Friday 12 December 2015.
