STRA-14 Control equipment Fläkt Woods Functions STRA-14 Temperature control CO 2 level control Free cooling feature Occupancy detection Condensation risk detection Communication: Modbus or BACnet Mode selection (normal, boost or energy saving mode) STRA-14 is a pre-programmed room controller intended to control the temperature and the CO 2 level in rooms. It is preprogrammed with communication and is intended for use in premises with high comfort and low energy demands, e.g. offices, schools, shopping centres, airports, hotels and hospitals. The STRA-14 is able to optimise energy consumption in rooms depending on different parameters: occupancy, CO 2 level, outside conditions (free cooling feature) and timetable. The thermal actuator of the water coils (heating and cooling) are controlled by the STRA-14 through 24V PWM signal or 0 10V outputs. The linear actuator of the outlet induction system (WEGA, WEGA Power, STELLA and NOVA chilled beams equipped with Motorized Energy Control) is controlled through a 0 10V output. The room controller STRA-14 will manage the risks of condensation in the room thanks to a condensation sensor located over the piping or a windows contact. Product facts Supply voltage, 18-30 V AC, 50-60 Hz Built-in temperature sensor Display 3 or 6 positions controller for outlet induction Easy installation thanks to separate basic plate for cable connections Communication via RS485: Modbus, BACnet or EXoline Outputs for thermal actuator: 24V Ac or 0 10V Inputs: external room sensor, CO 2 sensor, occupancy sensor, condensation detector al. windows contact 5 different pre-programmed control sequences relevant for chilled beam applications Fläkt Woods 9248 GB 2014.04 1 Specifications are subject of alteration without further notice.

Applications Controller operating modes Unscheduled time mode (OFF) This mode is activated by communication or the ON/OFF button (if configured). The controller is off and no heating or cooling is performed. However, if the temperature falls below a certain point (default 8 C, configurable) the controller starts to heat to prevent freezing. The airflow is according to nozzle for Energy saving (parameter 306). is pushed. The room controller regulates the temperature around the temperature setpoint. Unoccupied mode This mode is activated from BMS, none presence when using occupancy sensor or by pushing the Function button more than 5 seconds. The heating and cooling setpoints are extended (default 19 C for heating and 27 C for cooling). The airflow is according to nozzle for Energy saving (parameter 306). If the temperature increases even though the cooling valve is fully open the airflow will increase step by step. If free cooling is available (signal from communication is adjusted with parameter 309), the airflow will increase step by step before it opens the cooling valve. If the occupancy sensor detects occupancy the controller will change to occupied mode. Standby mode This mode can be used instead of "unoccupied mode" for non presence when using occupancy sensor. If the occupancy sensor is not connected, this mode cannot be activated (e.g. in a Landscape office). When the occupancy detector does not detect anybody, the setpoints for heating and cooling are extended (configurable values, ±3 C). For the version with MEC, the airflow is according to nozzle for Energy saving (parameter 306). If the temperature increases even though the cooling valve is fully open the airflow will increase step by step. If free cooling is available (signal from communication or adjusted with parameter 309), the airflow will increase step by step before it opens the cooling valve. If the occupancy sensor detects occupancy the controller will change to occupied mode. Occupied mode The Occupied operating mode means that the room is in use and is adjusted according to comfort mode. The airflow is preset according to parameter 307. The room controller controls the temperature around the heating or cooling temperature setpoints. For the version with MEC, if the temperature still increases even though the cooling valve is fully open, the airflow will increase step by step. If free cooling is available (signal from communication or adjusted with parameter 309), the airflow will increase step by step before it opens the cooling valve. If a CO 2 -sensor is connected it will override the temperature control of the linear actuator output. Boost mode (only for MEC version) This mode is activated by the button from Normal mode. The maximum air level is set by parameter 308, boost mode, for a predefined period of time or until the button Fläkt Woods 9248 GB 2014.04 2 Specifications are subject of alteration without further notice.

Applications Functions 6 or 3 positions function (only for MEC version) The 6-position function works on the UO3-output (MEC linear actuator). It works in the way that a certain voltage from the controller corresponds to a certain position on the MEC linear actuator. So when the controller output is within a certain range the UO3-output sets a specified voltage. The output on the UO3 is also depending on the controller state. Each mode of the room controller is related to an air level and this is set by parameter 306, 307 and 308. Cooling sequence without free cooling When there is no free cooling available, the controller works with cooling output and linear actuator output in sequence. The cooling output works when the PID output is between 0 48% and the linear actuator output works when the PID output is between 52 100%. When there is no demand for the linear actuator output, it is controlled to its minimum position for the current controller mode. The maximum linear actuator position is a configurable parameter in the parameter list. Cooling sequence with free cooling (only for MEC version) When there is free cooling available, the controller works with linear actuator output and cooling output in sequence. The linear actuator output works when the PID output is between 0 48% and the cooling output works when the PID output is between 52 100%. When there is no demand for the linear actuator output, it is controlled to its minimum position for the current controller mode. Free cooling is used when the AHU can produce free cooling and sends a signal via the BMS or adjusted with parameter 309. The maximum linear actuator position is a configurable parameter and selected in a parameter list (Maximum Air Level Cooling). It is used in following modes: Unoccupied, Standby and Occupied mode. % Output signal Nozzle for maximum cooling, Parameter 304 100 100 % Output signal Nozzle for maximum coolin Parameter 304 Airflow level default depending on mode 0 Airflow level depending on mode Cooling 1 Cooling 2 48% 52% % Cooling demand 0 Cooling 1 Cooling 2 48% 52% % Cooling demand Fläkt Woods 9248 GB 2014.04 3 Specifications are subject of alteration without further notice.

Applications Airflow sequence depending on CO 2 (only for MEC version) If there is a CO 2 -sensor connected to the controller, the airflow linear actuator (UO3) is controlled by the CO 2 -level in the room and the cooling valve (UO2) is controlled by the temperature in the room. For the CO 2 -sequence, the maximum nozzle is selected by parameter 305 (FS is nozzle 6). When there is a CO 2 -sensor connected to the controller the air level 6 is allowed as maximum air level. Below is a graph that shows the UO3-output when a CO 2 -sensor is connected. The UO2-output is controlled as in previous sequences.
