A Certificate in Healthcare Safety will provide a solid foundation to assist one in facilitating institutional compliance with OSHA regulations and meeting The Joint Commission (TJC) standards as they relate to the environment of care. To earn a Certificate in Healthcare Safety, the professional will have to successfully complete course work in OSHA general industry standards, bloodborne pathogens, airborne pathogens, hazardous materials, fire and life safety, and emergency management. Course content will specifically address conducting risk assessments, the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), NFPA s Life Safety Code, and The Joint Commission s Statement of Conditions. Advanced Safety & Health Certificate The Advanced Safety & Health Certificate from the CSUDH OSHA Training Institute Education Center will provide experienced and entry-level safety professionals with critical knowledge and practical experience in safety and safety standards. Participants Will: Learn how to apply OSHA federal and state safety regulations to reduce hazards and increase safe working conditions Identify safety standards and regulations impacting today s workplace Network with other safety professionals and potential employers Gain skills needed to earn advancement or promotion Access the most up-to-date safety and health information available Certificate Requirements: To be awarded the CSUDH Advanced Safety & Health Certificate participants must complete both OSHA 510 or 511, OSHA 521 and five eligible electives (see list below). At least three of the courses, including the final two, must be completed through the CSUDH OTI Education Center. All courses must be completed within a 5 year period. Special Features: Courses taken through the Chicago based OSHA Training Institute or other official OSHA Training Institute Education Centers can be used to fulfill up to four of the courses required for the CSUDH Advanced Safety & Health Certificate if they were completed within two years prior to the participant s official certificate enrollment date or no later than three years after this date. All coursework must be completed within three years after the official certificate enrollment date. The official certificate enrollment date is the first day of the first CSUDH OTI Education Center Certificate class the participant wishes to count towards the Certificate. When a participant has completed the entire certificate they must fill out an official Certificate Application form. The form is handed out in all CSUDH Classes, and is also available by request on the website. Occupational Safety for Managers and Supervisors Certificate of Completion The Program Designed for Health & Safety officers and those planning to enter the field, this program will provide skills and fulfill requirements necessary to function in a Health and Safety Department and to administer health and safety programs in an industrial setting. All program instructors are experienced practitioners in their field of expertise. Courses are offered at convenient times to meet the needs of working adults. On-site instruction is available. Who Should Attend The program will meet and satisfy ongoing CEU requirements for safety officers, registered environmental assessors, certified safety professionals, certified industrial hygienists, professional engineers and safety and industrial nurses. Supervisors, company owners, top and middle management, loss control representatives, worker compensation administrators, risk management personnel, general managers and superintendents will also find this program a valuable and important means of gaining professional knowledge. Eligibility Requirements This program is open to all students interested in learning more about environmental and occupational health & safety. Special Features Courses are offered for Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Nationally recognized standards govern attendance requirements to earn CEU credit. A permanent record of attendance is established and students may obtain a copy of their transcripts by calling the Records Office at (310) 243-3621.
