A Unique Composition to Protect and Maintain Natural Skin Hydration INCI Name: Trehalose (and) Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein Copyright 2006 AMITECH, Inc. 1

Concept and Composition TREALIX is a balanced combination of a disaccharide (TREHALOSE) with amino acids and hydrolyzed vegetable proteins that reflects the composition of the Normal Moisturizing Factor* 2

NATURAL MOISTURIZING FACTOR * Component Content (%) Amino Acids 40 PCA 12 Lactates 12 Sugars 10 Salts 18.5 Urea and Peptides 7.5 * Mitsui T. New Cosmetic Science, Elsevier, NY (1997) 3

About TREHALOSE TREHALOSE C12 H22 O11 CAS # 99-20-7 Diglucose α-d-glycopyranoside, α-d-glucopyranosyl TREHALOSE is a naturally occurring saccharide present in a wide variety of plant and animal life, enabling survival in the harshest climatic conditions TREHALOSE creates a more crystalline formation with neighboring water molecules than that created between water molecules and similar disaccharides TREHALOSE modifies the structural and dynamic properties of water, forming a unique entity with water molecules which makes it better able to protect biological structures TREHALOSE-water complexes are more rigid than other sugar complexes. This rigidity protects against high temperatures; the water molecules next to TREHALOSE are more flexible than the bulk water 4

How TREHALOSE functions TREHALOSE is readily soluble and provides moisture retention and protein protection when used in skin and hair care products The natural protective functions of TREHALOSE help protect against human skin and hair damage caused by exposure to harsh and changing environments TREHALOSE protects skin fibroblasts from dehydration by replacing water in tissues, helping to retain the natural structure of skin and hair. Thus it can be used as an effective moisturizer affording protection from potentially damaging climatic conditions. The word TREHALOSE is derived form the Biblical term TREHALA MANNA, and from an alternate name for TREHALOSE, MYCOSE, referring to the mushroom source of this saccharide. 5

TREHALOSE - Properties Moisture Retention Cryopreservation Additive Stabilizes Cell Structure (Protein Stabilization) Non-reducing Sugar GRAS Reduced Cariogenicity 6

TREALIX - Composition TREALIX TREHALOSE HYDROLYZED VEGETABLE PROTEINS Protein hydrolysates and amino acids, obtained by enzymatic hydrolyses of vegetable substrates, are considered as valid alternatives to animal derived proteins. Sourced from Oat, Corn, Soy, Wheat, Rice or Almond and enriched with a specific amino acid fraction (hydroxy proline) obtained from carrot, these protein fractions increase the substantivity to skin of the Normal Moisturizing Factor 7

Protein Hydrolysates Commonly used to treat both Atopic and Contact Dermatitis, protein hydrolysates are readily absorbed into the upper skin layers where they quickly increase skin hydration. Studies have shown increased dermal protection and tone, and as much as 20% increase in skin moisturization after only one week of application. 8

TREALIX - Properties and Applications TREHALOSE The Sugar of Life The COSMOTROPIC Nature of TREALIX Extraordinary Protection and Moisturization 9

TREALIX - The Sugar of Life TREHALOSE, also known as Resurrection Sugar, perhaps in reference to the Biblical mention of Trehala Manna, is a naturally occurring and unique disaccharide (diglucose) TREHALOSE has been shown to be the functional component that enables plants to withstand and resurrect from extreme conditions through a unique moisture stabilization process resembling freeze-drying TREHALOSE in the tissues of certain insects and desert plants allows them to survive in a state of suspended animation under conditions of water deficiency TREHALOSE helps frogs to survive in a frozen state and also helps to revive the DNA of salmon sperms from dehydration 10

TREALIX COSMOTROPIC Property COSMOTROPIC refers to the ability of TREALIX to improve and reorder the structure of membranes and tissues by linking additional water to them in such a way as to protect them and to allow them to retain moisture under extreme environmental conditions. The TREHALOSE component of TREALIX modifies the structural and dynamic properties of water, forming a unique entity with water molecules which makes it better able to protect biological structures 11

TREALIX Extraordinary Protection and Moisturization Under extreme conditions (hyperthermia, freezing, drought), TREALIX can form special protective structures above the cell membrane that can protect molecular structures from being damaged or destroyed TREALIX protects against protein denaturation during drying and freezing, resulting in improved protein functionality and stability TREALIX wraps and captures water molecules, keeping hydration constant. At the same time it protects skin from more common pollutants, retarding the aging process 12

TREALIX - Major Applications The application to the skin of a functional preparation containing significant amounts of saccharides and amino acids and hydrolyzed proteins of vegetable origin results in improved protection and hydration of the skin. This restoration of normal skin hydration is particularly useful under conditions where certain normal physiological cutaneous factors are lacking and the skin is dry and reddened or where skin displays age-related stress. TREALIX is such a functional ingredient, moisturizing and soothing, and particularly indicated for the treatment of delicate and sensitive skin. 13

TREALIX - Skin Moisturizing Efficacy - Numerical Results - The use of TREALIX shows a significant increase in skin hydration as early as at T=5 minutes. In fact, the results show that the effect of TREALIX is double that of Products B and D and six times the effect of Product C at this point. TREALIX achieves the highest rate of initial hydration, which it maintains for the duration of the test. At 6 hours after the initial application, although a progressive and continuous reduction in corneometric units is seen with all products, the TREALIX-based product maintains the highest level of hydration. - 38% for TREALIX - 49% for Product B - 93% for Product C - 25% for Product D 18

TREALIX SUMMARY TREALIX is a novel combination of natural ingredients that provides moisturization and protection to skin and hair through a powerful and unique mechanism used by Nature to protect membranes and cellular structures from environmental extremes. TREALIX TREALIX,, by inducing high moisture uptake and creating the structural conditions to maintain high hydration levels, protects and improves the conditioning of treated skin. 19
