WHAT IS ACQUA PELLE ACQUA PELLE 1. Liquid hydrogel 2. Electrolyte activated skin film + texture modifier 3. Pourable polymeric associative thickener 4. Salt activated + ph tolerant 5. Supports skin hydration balance. 6. Unique visco-elastic texture:: polymeric memory 7. Non-pilling 8. INCI:: Water + Acrylates/ C Acrylates Crosspolymer 9. Use level:: % 10. Applications:: skin care, hair care, clear-gel systems, + color cosmetics 11. Available grades:: AP Physical characteristics:: Appearance:: water clear liquid ph:: Viscosity:: < 1,500 cps instant hydration novel texture skin balance
HOW DOES ACQUA PELLE FUNCTION:: ACQUA PELLE 1. During neutralization, molecular chains expand through ion repulsion, similar to traditional polymeric thickeners:: + NaOH De-ionized H 2 O ph 7:: Molecular chains expand by ion repulsion. 2. ACQUA PELLE has a lower degree of crosslinking than typical polymeric thickeners providing a more flexible polymer chain. In the presence of electrolytes, this flexibility allows for the interaction (or association) of the hydrophobic groups where traditional polymers would break down. This association is referred to as activation and results in an increase in structure + viscosity:: Na + associated groups Mg 2+ K + Ca 2+ activation association
BENEFITS Na + EASE OF USE Mg 2+ SALT + ph COMPATIBLE K + Ca 2+ ENHANCES SKIN HYDRATION BALANCE UNIQUE VISCO-ELASTIC TEXTURE BREATHABLE + FLEXIBLE FILM NON- PILLING
EASE OF USE
EASE OF USE water phase post-add F O R M U L AT I N G W I T H A C Q U A P E L L E AP- 300 How to use:: Add to water phase Or Post-add for rheology adjustments Recommended use level:: % Recommended salt level:: 1-3% micelle activated AP Processing:: High shear for 30 minutes (min) after salt addition for optimum results. + Advantages:: Activated by salt vs salt tolerant Interacts with micelles from surfactants to provide more cross-linking (viscosity) Tack-free Non-pilling Can form clear gel structures with the addition of electrolytes cross-linking (viscosity)
Na + Na + K + Cl - Mg Mg SALT + ph COMPATIBLE Ca 2+ Ca 2+ K + Mg 2+ Ca 2+ Electrolytes are charged minerals in the body responsible for maintaining body chemistry, muscle action and other biological processes. Electrolytic balance is maintained by levels of H2O
SALT + ph COMPATIBILITY AP-300 NaCl ACTIVATION VS INDUSTRY STANDARD AP-300 1% NaCl Benchmark- 1% NaCl AP-300 2% NaCl Benchmark 2% NaCl Superior salt compatibility vs. industry standard. AP salt = clear gel system vs. industry standard AP salt = viscosity across wide ph range vs. industry standard
SALT + ph COMPATIBILITY AP-300 ELECTROLYTE ACTIVATION: ph %NaCl 2% Ascorbyl Glucoside 3% AHYP 3% Panadoxine P 2% Salicylic Acid 2% Syner C 0.5% Dead Sea Salt Clear gel with divalent bonds Superior results with electrolyte variation. AP-300 shows excellent compatibility with common industry salt based actives at recommended use levels. AP-300 enhances formulation texture, body, and performance.
SALT + ph COMPATIBILITY SHAMPOO:: 7.5% AP-300+ NaCl ADIDITION No Salt 0.15% Salt 0.3% Salt 0.5% Salt 0.75% Salt 7.5% AP % Salt addition (0.80% total salt) produced optimum thickening results for clear shampoo system. Viscosity > 10,000 cps (Brookfield spindle #61, 20 rpm, 1min) results in clear, thick, gel-type system.

MOISTURE BALANCE Stratum corneum is comprised of 30% water. ** Water is bound by natural moisturizing factors within the stratum corneum (amino acids, etc). Stratum corneum re-hydrates through osmosis from both the dermis and some from the environment. SKIN MOISTURIZATION Re-hydration is regulated by balancing osmotic pressure. Water content of the stratum corneum fluctuates with environmental humidity levels. Epidermis Stratum corneum Basal layer If water content in stratum corneum is < 10%, skin balance is disturbed and the result is dry, scaly, less pliable skin. Dermis Dry skin = Dull skin * Fluid Physiology Kerry Brandis www. anaesthesiamcq.com ** Skin Physiology, Irritants, Dry Skin and Moisturizers Christina Marino, MD, MPH. Report # a. August 2001
MOISTURE BALANCE Acqua Pelle forms breathable, skin barrier protective film. FLUID SKIN BALANCING TECHNOLOGY Acqua Pelle film will strengthen with skin electrolytes interaction. MOISTURIZATION CONCEPT Skin film is activated by electrolytes, forming a hydrogel. Hydrogel holds water in film, to balance water concentration. Epidermis Stratum corneum Basal layer Balanced skin = Healthy skin Dermis
UNIQUE VISCO-ELASTIC TEXTURE BREATHABLE + FLEXIBLE FILM New product forms Formulation optimization + simplification Enhances product performance Supports skin health Multi-functional NON- PILLING Broad product application Fulfills industry need for salt tolerant thickening mechanism
