WHAT S NEW? VERSION 7.7
INTRODUCTION This is a more detailed overview of the new and improved features in FlexSim 7.7, the latest version of FlexSim s flagship simulation modeling package. This edition of the software builds on version 7.5 and introduces bone animations; exceptional visual and performance improvements; and Process Flow, a new flowcharting tool to model complex or difficult problems. Anyone can download FlexSim 7.7 at www.flexsim.com to test its functionality in the free Express version. Users with current maintenance can upgrade their license through their FlexSim Account or within the FlexSim 7.7 software. c 2015 FlexSim Software Products, Inc. www.flexsim.com page 2 of 7
VISUALIZATION Bone Animations FlexSim has added support for bone animations. This means that you can now import 3D models with bone animation data to create spectacular new FlexSim animations. We ve added new default animations for the operator to showcase this exciting technology. Watch a teaser video of the new bone animations at http://flexs.im/visuals. New 3D Models We ve added several new high quality 3D models: The Operator has an option for male or female, which can be changed in a drop-down menu in the Operator s Properties window. You can also choose the Legacy Operator, if desired. The Transporter has been updated to an impressive and detailed fork truck model. The new Truck TaskExecuter flowitem includes a semi-trailer truck model. Video Recorder This tool replaces the AVI Maker and is a superior way to capture video in FlexSim. It creates high quality videos in a variety of formats and resolutions, following flypaths that have been created using our excellent Presentation Builder. With just a few clicks, you can share clips of your simulation run in full 1080p high definition. c 2015 FlexSim Software Products, Inc. www.flexsim.com page 3 of 7
VISUALIZATION Capture View selecting an object. This is helpful for densely populated models. The mouse wheel now zooms relative to the mouse s position. This tool is located in the Quick Properties, and was designed as a one-click solution for generating high quality screenshots of the 3D View. No external editing is necessary simply choose an image size and click the Capture View button. Oculus Rift Support FlexSim now supports the Oculus Rift, the highly anticipated virtual reality device that will be released to the public in early 2016. Take a virtual tour of your facility! In conjunction with the Oculus, FlexSim also supports Xbox 360 controllers. These game pads are an intuitive way to navigate models in virtual reality. Other Significant improvements to FlexSim s drawing performance will make all models display faster and smoother than ever before. Improved FlexSim s ability to display on high DPI screens. PROCESS FLOW Introducing Process Flow This is a powerful and flexible new tool for handling complex logic. Process Flow uses a familiar flowcharting method to solve difficult problems that previously required computer code. Simply drag out pre-set activities from our extensive library and build your process. Logical Presentation Process Flow excels at presenting logic in a simulation model. A visually-engaging flowchart is a superior way to see what s happening behind the scenes, and Process Flow provides an assortment of customization options to share your thought process with others. Complexity Made Easy Process Flow is uniquely capable of modeling complex systems in far less time. Early testing from our in-house consultants had models such as job shops, wave picking, and others taking hours less to complete. They ve also found that Global Task Sequences and Coordinated Task Sequences take a fraction of the time in Process Flow. Validating a Process FlexSim s 3D visuals add an invaluable dimension for confirming your model, and now Process Flow adds the same ability to your underlying logic. You can actually watch the actions of each activity in your process, which makes for quick validation and easy debugging. c 2015 FlexSim Software Products, Inc. www.flexsim.com page 5 of 7
OTHER Global Tables Improvement Global Tables now store data in bundles rather than nodes. This will help with memory usage, especially in cases such as huge tables or logs that update over time. Global Lists We ve added a Truck TaskExecuter Flowitem that uses the Truck packing method (mentioned below). Flowitem Packing Methods Vastly improved UI for specifying and customizing flowitem packing methods. Added a new Truck packing method, where items are packed in the Truck s trailer. This new tool functions like a dynamic database table, complete with SQL search and filtering. Think of a Global List like you would a restaurant paging system, where patrons are given pagers that buzz when their table is ready. A processor in a routing operation could buzz a flowitem when it s ready to be processed at that location, instead of relying on physical layout or port connections to manage these responsibilities. New Flowitem Excel Importer Improvement The Excel Importer will now allow you to import cells formatted with dates and times as numbers when using Automatic Data Distinction. We ve also made general improvements to Automatic Data Distinction. For example, if a cell has a number but is formatted as text, it will correctly import as a string. Experimenter Improvement We ve added Model Layout as an Experimenter Variable. This allows you to easily experiment on factors such as travel distance based on different model views. The Experimenter web viewer export has also been improved so it can be customized, similar to how dashboard widgets can be moved and resized. c 2015 FlexSim Software Products, Inc. www.flexsim.com page 6 of 7
OTHER Dashboards Added a Custom Gantt chart. Dashboards have the ability to scroll. Added a numerical precision property to dashboard stat widgets. Added a spinner object to dashboard model input objects. Dashboard charts can be copied and pasted. Other Task Sequences can store their own labels. This allows you to add custom data to Task Sequences. Shift + Enter in a table cell creates a new line in the table. Added OnStateChange triggers to the BasicTE and BasicFR objects. Copy now also places the path to a highlighted object on the clipboard.... And much more! c 2015 FlexSim Software Products, Inc. www.flexsim.com page 7 of 7
