2 In this guide, we will refer to specific tools, toolbars, tabs, or menus. Use this visual reference to help locate them on the PhotoPlus workspace. 1

3 This Quick Start Guide will walk you through installing PhotoPlus X6, show you basic image editing techniques, and explain how to export or print your finished project. To install PhotoPlus X6, insert the PhotoPlus X6 Program disc into your disc drive. The AutoRun feature automatically starts the setup process. Simply answer the on-screen questions to install the program. 2

4 When you launch PhotoPlus, a appears. There are three main sections to the Startup Wizard: The section lets you create a new image or animation from scratch. The section is what we ll be using for this Quick Start Guide. You'll be able to browse to and open your photo. The section lets you explore ways to use PhotoPlus, such as written and video tutorials. 3

5 From the Startup Wizard, in the Open section, click. 1. From the Open dialog, navigate to the folder containing your photos. 2. Select your photo. 3. Click. Your photo appears in the PhotoPlus workspace. 4

6 If you plan to get your photos processed or printed, you can crop them to a pre-defined print size to fit into picture frames. 1. From the toolbar to the left, select the. 2. On the context toolbar above your photo, from the first drop-down list, select a print size. 3. Click and drag on your photo to define the crop area. Releasing the mouse button sets the size of your crop. Fine tune the size of your crop area by dragging the corner handles. Move it by clicking within the crop area and dragging to a new location. 5

7 4. (Optional) For perfect photo composition, check on the context toolbar above your photo. Aim to size and position the four intersection points of the displayed yellow grid over key features in your photo. 5. Click on the context toolbar. Not only will you have removed unwanted areas, but the photo composition can be improved too. 6

8 Photos taken in adverse light conditions or with incorrect exposure can lead to results that are faded, too bright, or too dark. PhotoPlus offers ways to adjust your image's overall lightness or darkness (brightness) and the difference between the lightest and darkest parts of your image (contrast). 1. On the tab to the right of your photo, click. Brightness/Contrast is added as an adjustment layer. You can make changes to this layer without affecting your original photo. 2. Adjust the Brightness and Contrast of the image via the sliders. After you ve finished working on the adjustment layer, remember to reselect the Background layer by clicking it on the Layers tab located below the Adjustments tab. 7

9 1. On the toolbar to the left, expand the Blemish Removal Tools flyout and click. 2. On the context toolbar above your picture, set the size of the remover this will depend on the size of the spot or blemish. 3. Click on the blemish to define the target area to correct. (You can zoom in or out with the scroll wheel on your mouse, if available.) 4. Drag to a suitable pickup area that blends nicely with the target area. Notice how the pixels in the target area update to reflect the pickup area. 5. Release the mouse button the spot or blemish is removed! 8

10 PhotoPlus has a selection of different correction tools available from, a purposely designed studio for repairing imperfections and making images flawless. Let's look at correcting the red-eye phenomenon common in colour photos taken with a flash. 1. On the toolbar at the top, click. While in, your image appears as uncropped. 2. 11 You can add warmth to photos taken outdoors in shady or cloudy conditions or you can reduce the orange or yellow tinge that's common when using artificial indoor lighting. 1. On the toolbar at the top, click. 2. On the filter on the right of the PhotoFix Studio, select from the presets drop-down list. Your selection depends on the lighting condition at the time the photo was taken and it automatically adjusts the setting. 3. 12 PhotoPlus has a powerful array of different creative effects available for you from the. Let's look at transforming this photo into an oil painting in just a few clicks. 1. 14 Key point! Up to now you've been working on a PhotoPlus project (.spp file). To share your finished work, you'll need to export it to a different file format such as PNG (good for print) or JPG (good for websites). 1. Click from the menu to the top and left. The Export Optimizer is displayed. 2. On the bottom-left of the dialog, click the Double button for a side-by-side comparative preview of different graphic file formats and their settings. The settings are displayed above the image. 3. Click on a preview image to select it for export or to change its properties. 4. From the Options pane on the left, from the dropdown list, select the file format of your exported image. 5. (Optional) Specify the image's size or resolution (dpi). Size will determine its quality and compression. Resolution will determine how detailed your image will be. 6. Once you're happy, click on the preview image you want, then on the bottom-right of the dialog, click. 7. From the Save As dialog, choose a folder and enter a file name. 8. Click. 13
