General & Business English Courses The General English courses cover all aspects of the language and the main focus of the class is to improve the student s communication skills in English through speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Students can choose to add 5 hours of Business English to the General English Course to include business modules such as participating in meetings & discussions, negotiating successfully, using the telephone effectively & giving clear and concise presentations. Great importance is placed on oral communication and materials are both relevant and stimulating. Internship Programme The English & Internship Programme combines an English language course of at least 4 weeks followed by an unpaid placement in a company in Dublin for a minimum period of 4 weeks. The internship programme allows students to gain practical work experience and improve their English language fluency in a professional, English-speaking work environment. The types of roles available are administration positions in companies in the tourism, marketing, sales, finance and hospitality sectors. Accommodation Self-caterIng SHareD apartments Our self-catering shared apartments are 20 minutes walk from the school. Each apartment has 4 or 6 bedrooms, a common living area with TV and a fully equipped kitchen. Each apartment has 2 bathrooms. Bed linen is provided for each student but they should bring their own towels. Hotel/HoStel accommodation HoSt family accommodation Our local host families live in the suburbs of the city. Host families can be reached by public transport and the normal daily commute is between 30-50 minutes by bus/tram. Families can be traditional families with children, young couples with no children, single-parent families or retired couples whose children have left home. Hotel, Hostel, and Bed & Breakfast accommodation is available through-out the year in Dublin. Hostels are the most economical alternative to homestay or residential accommodation with prices ranging from 20-30 per night. Hotel costs vary and a quotation is available on request. All of our host families are carefully selected by IH Dublin and are regularly visited by our Accommodation Officer to ensure quality. Students will have a single room in the house and will have breakfast and dinner with the host family during the week, will full-board on weekends. Self-caterIng StuDIo apartments Our studio apartments are located in Ranelagh, a lively residential area just south of Dublin city centre which is 10 minutes by tram or 30 minutes walking from the school. Single, twin and double studios are available, all with private bathrooms, kitchen and living areas. There is a laundry room available in the building and bed linen and towels are provided. Terms & Conditions for Adult Courses 1 minimum age: Minimum age for our Adult School is 17, except during June, July & August when the minimum age is 16. 2 classes: Each class lasts 60 minutes. 3 fees: Fees include tuition, welcome pack, student information handbook, wi-fi, use of computers, placement test and end of course certificate. Fees do not include exam fees, lunch, private insurance and bank charges. A registration charge of 55 is applicable on all courses. All students must pay 30 for their course book which is included in the first invoice. 4 airport transfers: We can arrange for you to be met at Dublin Airport and taken to your accommodation. The cost of this service is 75 and the service is available between 08.00-22.00. Transfers outside of these hours are available at a supplemental charge of 30. 5 IH DublIn calendar: The school will be closed on the following public holidays: - Christmas Holidays 2014: 20th Dec 2014-4th Jan 2015 - Christmas Holidays 2015: 19th Dec 2015-3rd Jan 2016 - St. Patrick s Day - Tuesday 17th March - Easter Monday - Monday 6th April No classes will be held on these days, there is no reduction in fees when a course includes a public holiday and classes are not compensated for. There is an Orientation Day on the following public holidays, including testing and a tour of the city centre, commencing at 11am: - May Bank Holiday Monday 4th May - June Bank Holiday Monday 1st June - August Bank Holiday Monday 3rd August - October Bank Holiday Monday 26th October 6 accommodation: All accommodation bookings made with IH Dublin are subject to an accommodation booking fee of 55. - Homestay accommodation is based on a 7 night stay beginning from Saturday or Sunday - Options include half-board Monday-Friday and full board at weekends OR breakfast only - Located in suburbs of Dublin with average public transport commute of 30-50 minutes (which can vary at peak times) - There is a supplement of 50 per week for students who require a specialist coeliac diet - Self-catering apartment accommodation is based on a 7 night stay arriving and departing on Sunday only - Self-catering with no meals included Accommodation during Christmas - Students can stay with their host families (where the family has agreed) for an extra cost of 50 per week - Students can stay in the self-catering apartments at no extra charge 7. InSurance: All students are advised to take out private medical and travel insurance, which is available to purchase from IH Dublin (see pricelist). EU citizens should travel to Dublin with their European Health Insurance Card (E111) to cover public medical care. 8. visas: Non-EU citizens should contact their local Irish Embassy or visit the Immigration Service website www.inis.gov.ie for visa requirements. 9. In this case, the refund of the fees will be processed when the official letter of refusal from Immigration is sent to IH Dublin. - Please note that all cancellations must be submitted in writing by letter or email to IH Dublin. 11. refunds: No refunds can be made after a course has started. In the case of illness, students may ask for their course to be postponed to a later date. In this case, the school will require a medical certificate. A course cannot be carried over to the next calendar year. All courses are non-transferrable.
