Job Details

Note: Administration Clerk and Clerk Finance trades will be amalgamated in 2017. Maybe you know a thing or two about the Army already. Maybe you don t. Want to take a stab at just how big the Australian Army really is? Here s a hint it s very large! This is what makes the Army one of the most challenging and exciting employment opportunities in Australia, and why the role of Administration Clerk (Admin Clk, also known as Command Support Clerk) is like no other administrative function in the nation. An Admin Clk is a member of the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps (RAAOC) who plays a pivotal role in Army expected to know what is happening within units and acting as the first point of contact within those units for any number of issues. Admin Clks are employed in the majority of units in the Australian Army and have opportunities to work with Navy and Air. The skills gained as an Admin Clk will allow you to be employed in barracks, on training exercises, and in the field. While your surroundings may change, your job role remains consistent and is essential to the effective operation of Army. Your duties: The duties listed below are indicative of the tasks you could be expected to perform, but note that not all duties are performed in each position. Interpret policy, legislation and regulations to provide clerical and administrative advice; Understand professional pay and allowance concepts related to the military environment; Use a number of diverse in-service Information Systems to support peers and commanders; Maintain records, files and registers; Prepare administrative and operational documents for signature and release; Provide accurate advice on pay, personal allowances and unit/personal claims; Maintain maps, logbooks, messages and information in an operational environment; Operate the Battlefield Management System; and General soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, navigation, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment. Entry General Entry (Non-Technical Trainee) is the term used to describe the large number of non-technical jobs available to people entering the Army as soldiers (non-officer entry). The Army is made up of different specialist branches, called Corps, which perform various different functions such as Administration, Catering, Communications, Health, Armoured, Artillery, Engineering, Infantry and Transport. General Entry (Non-Technical Trainee) soldiers graduate from recruit training with the rank of private and generally progress to private proficient after 12 months effective service following completion of initial employment training. Further promotion to corporal, sergeant and warrant officer is based on performance, the length of time spent in a particular rank and vacancies and will normally require the successful completion of trade and promotion courses. Corporals (Bombardiers in Artillery) are referred to as Junior Non-Commissioned Officers, or JNCOs, while sergeants are referred to as Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs). Warrant Officer Class One is the most senior soldier rank. A corporal will normally have some responsibility for the supervision of junior staff and this progressively increases on promotion to sergeant. A warrant officer normally has a substantial personnel management role. Pay & Allowances Salary while undertaking Military (Recruit) Training: $1,379 per fortnight ($35,854 per year).* Salary while undertaking Initial Employment Training: $1,576 per fortnight ($40,976 per year).* While under training, you will also receive $388 per fortnight ($10,086 per year pro rata) Trainee Allowance. Salary (excluding allowances) on completion of Initial Employment Training: $1,788 per fortnight ($46,499 per year).* In addition to your salary, you will receive Service Allowance of $517 per fortnight ($13,448 per year) except while undertaking Military (Initial) or Employment training. This allowance compensates a member for the unique requirements that service life may impose on an individual and his or her family. Each General Entry job in the Australian Defence Force is classified into a pay grade. This particular job is classified as a

Pay Grade 2 occupation. Salary will continue to increase based on rank and the number of years of service completed in that rank. As such, it is strongly recommended that all applicants obtain the required documentation as soon as possible to provide the best opportunity to be employed in their preferred employment category. Aptitude Requirement The application process to join the Australian Defence Force requires you to complete a series of aptitude tests including verbal, spatial and numerical ability and a general maths test. Some jobs may also require you to complete additional

testing at a later date. Psychology support staff will explain what is involved with each test. The aptitude tests provide information about your suitability for the Defence Force and for particular jobs. Further information on the aptitude testing requirements can be found here. For more details on recruit training, refer to the Joining instructions. These instructions will provide you and your family with enough information to arrange your personal affairs before enlistment in the Army, and give you an idea of what you will be doing on the recruit course. During Military (Initial Recruit) Training and (Initial) Employment Training, members may be required to pay a contribution towards meals, accommodation and utilities. Employment Training Command Support Clerk Course: 48 days, not including weekends. Location: Bandiana, Victoria.
