Cool Roof concept A cool roof efficiently reflects sunlight and keeps its surface cool by re-radiating the sun s heat back to its surroundings. The roof temperature stays lower therefore the amount of heat conducted into the building below decreases. Sun-Activ membrane makes it happen: its white, smooth and highly reflective surface makes your roof cool! How does it work? The cool roof performance is defined by a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI), which is a combination of Solar Reflectance and Thermal Emittance values. Solar Reflectance is the ability of a material to reflect sunlight from its surface back into the atmosphere. Thermal Emittance is the ability to re-radiate already absorbed heat. Beside other material caracteristics influencing the choice of a roofing product, the SRI velue is crucial to the cool roof concept. SOLAR REFLECTANCE: The ratio of reflected solar radiation from the roof surface. THERMAL EMITTANCE: The ability of the roof surface to release absorbed heat.

Add value to your building Many of the existing building certification programmes specify the Cool Roof as one of the added value aspects in terms of optimisation of energy performance and reduction of the heat island effect. For exemple, to meet LEED requirements for a cool roof, a roofing material must have an SRI of 29 or higher for steeply pitched (>2:12) roofs and an SRI value of 78 or higher for flat or low pitched roofs. Therefore, with the Sun-Activ cap sheet (SRI value of 98), the building can gain points and increase its market value. Increase the service life of the waterproofing A cool roof coating protects the waterproofing from the destructive UV rays that can degrade the membrane over time. Thanks to the white, reflective coating of Sun-Activ membrane, the SBS compound is protected and the roofing maintanance cost decreses as the longevity of the waterproofing increases. Help the environment by reducing the urban heat island effect Many cities encounter the urban heat island effect resulting in smog formation and poorer air quality. Sun-Activ membrane Best choice for excellent performance of your cool roof The Sun-Activ membrane is an SBS bituminous waterproofing cap sheet with a polyester-glass fibre composite reinforcement. It is designed for multi-layer waterproofing systems which give the highest security level in terms of watertightness. Top surface: white acrylic paint resistant to UV radiation, smooth and highly reflective. Bottom surface: polypropylene thermofusible film. The SRI value of 98 is what makes the Sun-Activ membrane perfect for cool roof applications. The Sun-Activ cap sheet reflects 75% of the UV rays and releases 85% of the absorbed heat back to the atmosphere. Sun-Activ - reflective SBS membrane Easy and traditional installation The Sun-Activ membrane is applied as part of a multi-layer system, installed on a base layer compatible with the substrate. The base layer can be a self-adhesive, mechanically fixed or torch applied bituminous or synthetic, new or existing membrane. This first layer is installed parallel to the direction of the slope according to its own installation instructions. Sun-Activ membrane is also installed parallel to the direction of the slope. Head laps of the Sun-Activ membrane should be staggered by at least 10 cm from the base layer head laps. Sun-Activ is fully torched in a traditional way onto the base layer with side laps of 8 cm and head laps of 10 cm.
