e-mail: admin@carrlaneprimary.net 01482 653388 @WCLPS www.willerbycarrlane.e-riding.sch.uk 8 th January 2014 Dear Parents, Carers, Governors, Staff and Pupils Wolfreton School - Consultation in Consolidation onto One Site East Riding of Yorkshire Council is consulting on a proposal to consolidate Wolfreton School onto one site in Carr Lane. More details about the proposal are contained in the consultation document which is available on the Council s website at: http://www2.eastriding.gov.uk/learning/schools-colleges-and-academies/schools-and-schoolplaces/secondary-schools/ There will be a public meeting on Wednesday 22 January 2014 in the Wolfreton lower school hall on Carr Lane commencing at 6.30pm. At the meeting, representatives from the school, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Education Funding Agency will explain the reasons for the proposal and answer questions. Should you require a printed copy of the consultation document, please telephone 01482 392120, email wolfretonschoolconsultation@eastriding.gov.uk. Or write to School Organisation Officer, Children, Families & Schools, County Hall, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU17 9BA. All responses to the consultation should be sent to the address in the consultation document to be received no later than Friday 14 February 2014. Playground Markings We are looking to provide markings for the football pitches on the Y3/4 and Y5/6 playgrounds. As well as being of benefit to those children playing football, it should also help to contain the games, leaving other areas of the playground free for children wanting to play other games. PFA news The PFA meet regularly to plan the terms events. The next PFA meeting is on Friday 10 January, from 9.00am to 10.00am in the OOS club building. Please come along and join in. Tea, coffee and a warm welcome provided! EYFS Phonics Information Evening The Early Years Team is putting on a Phonics Information Session for parents on Tuesday 14 th January from 6.00pm to 7.30pm in the main Hall. The evening will be a fun introduction to the way the school teaches phonics to your children. Please come along and learn how to best support your child with this most important area of their learning.

Did you know just registering your child for Free School Meals means that the school gets extra money? Register now to make sure we don t miss out The Government is giving money to schools to help children from lower income families do their very best. This funding is called a Pupil Premium. For every child registered, Willerby Carr Lane Primary School gets a massive 953 each year. With this money we could employ more Teaching Assistants or provide more 1:1 tuition. Please make sure your child and others in their class don t miss out. How does it work? 1. First, check if you qualify it is not just if you are unemployed. You can register if you get any of these benefits: Income Support Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance Income-related Employment and Support Allowance Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed 16,190 Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit 2. Registering is really quick and easy if you think you qualify, contact the school admin staff who will help you to register. 3. If you want your child to have a free, healthy meal at lunchtime that s great they will get the free meal (saving you more that 380 a year), extra benefits and the school gets 953 extra. 4. If you don t want your child to have the school meals they can continue as normal as long as you qualify and are registered, the school still gets 953 extra. Come and talk to us if you re not sure. No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming. Please talk to us about registering your child today.

IMPORTANT esafety briefing for parents: 19 March @ 6pm I would urge parents to make every effort to come to our 1 hour esafety briefing meeting on Wednesday 19th March (6pm to 7pm). We have invited a specialist esafety consultant, Andy Nunn, to give the briefing and answer questions from parents. There are an increasing range of risks for our young children posed by the internet, social media, mobile devices and Apps. As adults we can often feel left behind by the pace of change and the latest thing. Research shows that those leading the way in the take up of the latest technologies are under 14 years old! At the same time, these youngsters are often unaware of many of the dangers associated with them. It is really important therefore that parents make themselves aware of the current changes in technologies, their dangers and how to minimise any risk, so that they can help to guide and advise their children. Within school, we continue to teach our esafety curriculum at appropriate levels across the whole school. As part of this we will be joining in with national Safer Internet Day. Safer Internet Day 2014 will take place on 11th February 2014, with the theme 'Let's create a better internet together'. The day offers the opportunity to focus on both the creative things that children and young people are doing online, as well as the role and responsibility that all stakeholders have in helping to create a better internet. Safer Internet Day is organised in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre in February of each year to promote the safe and responsible use of online technology and mobile phones for children and young people. Further information is available at http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2014. On Friday 24 th January we will be having an outside Theatre Workshop Spin Off Productions in school for pupils in Years 4,5,6 to help them understand and deal with Cyberbullying. In partnership with Kingston Communications Click Clever is an e-safety learning initiative which addresses key issues of cyber bullying and staying safe online through the use of forum theatre. There will be a workshop alongside two short plays. It should be a fun day but with important messages. Appeal from the School Council Post Xmas clearout of old toys? If you are having a post Christmas clear out, or just know that you have some toys or books that you no longer use, perhaps you would consider donating them to school. In particular we would like some reading, colouring and puzzle books and some construction toys like duplo. If you have anything that you would be willing to donate it would help us enormously and enable us to stretch our budget for playtime equipment that little bit further. We are sure the children would really appreciate having a variety of things to do at playtimes. Please drop any donations at the school office. Thank you!! Happy New Year! With best wishes for a good Spring Term from Mr Smith and all the staff. Please see following pages for: Provisional Diary Dates for 2013-14 and Academic Year Calendars for 2013-14 and 2014-15
