Submit 2 Papers via email to the Instructor to lindahurkmans@sbcglobal.net If you submit your paper to ANY other email address, you will not get credit for your paper. In the subject line of the email, please write, for example Megan Nguyen s Psych 14 Paper #1 Please simply copy and paste the paper right into the body of the email. If you send it in another format, you will not get credit for your paper. They are due by 11:59pm on their due dates. Please cite at least 4 resources that you used on a separate bibliography page. Use your textbook and at least 3 other resources.

Papers are worth a maximum of 50 points each. Late work will NOT be accepted!! As a distant learner you MUST organize your time and keep to the deadlines. Psych 14 Paper #1 DUE: 11:59pm on Friday Feb. 7 on Applying Theorists onto yourself and on Conditioning (worth a maximum of 50 points): Paper #1 Part 1: Write a 3-4 paper about yourself integrating what you have learned from the major stage theorists in Developmental Psychology. Discuss which psychosexual stage you are in, according to Freud, which psychosocial stage you are in, according to Erikson, which cognitive stage you are in, according to Piaget, and which moral stage you are in, according to Kohlberg. How are those stages going for you? What is your insight into any problems or successes you may be having at this stage in your development? Paper #1 Part 2: Write a 2 page paper describing how you would use Operant Conditioning to help teach a child good manners and prosocial behaviors (ie, say please and thank you, be nice, share, wait your turn, don t intentionally hurt others, etc.) If you want a good grade you must use the terms of Operant Conditioning correctly: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment, shaping, temporal contiguity, and the Social Learning Term modeling. Your grade will suffer if you do NOT explain and use these terms. Use your text reading, videos, flashcards and any other resources on MyPsychLab to help explain these terms well. Use your own analytical skills and what you are learning in Psych 14. Email the paper to lindahurkmans@sbcglobal.net Send both parts of your paper together pasted into the body of your email. The paper should be typed, double-spaced, font size of 12, and of college level. Please proofread and spell-check. Please cite at least 4 resources that you used researching the paper on a separate Resource Page. Do NOT only use the text as a resource.

Psych 14 Paper #2 DUE: 11:59pm on Friday March 21 on a Theorist of your Choice and the Human Genome Project (worth a maximum of 50 points): Paper #2 Part 1: Write a 3-4 page research paper on one of the many theories of lifespan development discussed in this course. You may choose which theorist you will cover. Write an introduction paragraph, history about the individual, key components of the theory, why the theory is influential in the field of Developmental Psychology, what part of the theory makes the most sense to you, and a conclusion paragraph. Paper #2 Part 2: Write a 2 page research paper on the Human Genome Project (HGP), describing what is a genome, what is the HGP, what are the goals of the HGP, what significance will it have for humans (how will it help us), and what are the ethical, legal, and social considerations for using the HGP? Use your text reading, videos, flashcards and any other resources on MyPsychLab to help explain these terms well. Use your own analytical skills and what you are learning in Psych 14. Email the paper to lindahurkmans@sbcglobal.net Send both parts of your paper together pasted in the body of your email. The paper should be typed, double-spaced, font size of 12, and of college level. Please proofread and spell-check. Please cite at least 4 resources that you used researching the paper on a separate Resource Page. Do NOT only use the text. Need help with the Paper If you are having trouble please flag your email with questions on the assignment or help needed with the Psy 14 Online Paper or something to that effect. That way I don t just think you are submitting your assignment and fail to respond quickly. Extra Credit No Extra Credit is given in this class. My Virtual Life My Virtual Life is a fascinating and helpful simulation you can use while you have access to MyDevelopmentLab in Psych 14. The first simulation allows you to raise a child from birth to age 18 and monitor the effects of your parenting decisions over time. In the second simulation, you will make first person decisions and see the impact of those decisions on your simulated future self over time. You are not required to use this simulation, nor will you get points towards your Psych 14 grade. However, if you have time and wish to go deeper into the Developmental Psych. course, I encourage you to use it. COURSE POLICIES Those discovered to be cheating (unauthorized collaboration, plagiarizing on papers, etc.) will be given an F grade for the course and may be reported to college authorities for expulsion. Students, please be responsible for completing your work according to the dates below. My advice to any distant learner is to try not to let the work pile up and then feel overwhelmed. Just take it day by day.
