Product Description 3 The EPS-21 (Eye Protective System for the 21st Century) is an advanced sun, wind, and dust goggle for the military user. The goggle has been successfully tested in accordance with ANSI Z87.1-2003. The modular concept consists of a basic goggle, made of advanced materials, with a 4mm thick ballistic lens, which has a scratch resistant, anti-fog coating. Outsert lenses provide sunshade protection. Reduced eye-to-lens clearance yields improved interface with optical sighting equipment. The goggle retention strap, available in a standard version or a ski version, may be configured for use with or without helmets. A soft case holds all components on the belt or other user-selected attachment location. The goggle accepts a prescription snap-in frame for users who require corrective eyewear. Ground Troop Helmet Configuration, Standard Strap 76 The helmet strap is placed around the head and is retained in place with the over-the-head strap. The helmet is then placed on the head, holding the over-the-head strap in place. The goggle, hanging loosely down the front of the wearer s chest, is brought into place on the face. The straps are then tightened by grasping and pulling on the strap ends. Once the desired tension is reached, the strap ends are attached to each other by hook and pile at the back of the helmet.
8 Ground Troop Helmet Configuration, Standard Strap (Continued) STRAP RETAINER To remove, loosen or stow the goggles, release the velcro tab ends at the rear of the helmet. Using the index fingers, push forward on the strap retainer on each side of the goggle, while at the same time pushing the goggle forward. The goggle can be left hanging loosely in front. The goggles can also be stowed on the front of the helmet.
Ground Troop Helmet Configuration, Ski Strap 9 Don the helmet, fasten the chinstrap, and make any necessary adjustments. Fasten the rear buckle of the goggle strap at the back of the helmet. BUCKLE On each side of the helmet, adjust the goggle as needed by moving the slide adjustments back to tighten the goggle or forward to loosen it. To remove the goggle, unfasten the rear buckle. SLIDE ADJUSTMENT
10 In the CVC configuration, the goggle strap is attached to the rear helmet shell by a retainer loop strap on the CVC helmet, and placed beneath the front shell retainer tab on each side of the helmet. CVC Helmet Configuration, Standard Strap Its usage, donning, and doffing are the same as for the ground troop configuration except that when worn or stowed on the front of the shell, the velcro end-tabs are attached to the tabs on the side of the helmet rather than at the rear.
CVC Helmet Configuration, Ski Strap 11 Don the helmet, fasten the chinstrap, and make any necessary adjustments. On both sides of the helmet, snap the goggle strap beneath the helmet snap tab. At the back of the helmet, unsnap the helmet snap tab, fasten the rear goggle buckle, and snap the tab over the goggle strap. On both sides of the helmet, adjust the goggle as necessary by moving the slide adjustments back to tighten the goggle or forward to loosen it. To remove the goggle, unsnap the rear helmet tab, unfasten the rear buckle and unsnap the side helmet tabs. SNAP TAB STRAP SLIDE ADJUSTMENT SNAP TAB NOTE: When the ski strap is used, some adjustment may be needed to stow the goggle on top of the helmet.
12 Attachment of Outsert Lens Retainer Attachment tab hooks Attachment: Hold the goggle in either hand. With the other hand, insert one hook on the outsert lens into the proper socket on the side of the goggle. Next, using the thumb of the hand to hold the goggles just above the bridge of the nose. Press the outsert lens against the goggle, aligning the other hook with its socket in the goggle. Press the loose end of the outsert lens firmly into the socket in the goggle until it snaps audibly in place by squeezing it against the goggle with both thumbs.
Removal of Outsert Lens To remove the outsert, reverse the attachment process by holding the goggle in the same way, hooking a bent index finger under the flange, and pulling up on the farthest end until it pops loose. This is best done by gently pushing down on the bridge of the outsert lens with a thumb to release excess pressure on the outsert hook before pulling up. DO NOT PRY THE LENS OFF WITHOUT YOUR THUMB ON THE BRIDGE OF THE LENS 13 When one end is free of the socket, remove the thumb from the center of the lens, and lift the outsert lens away from the goggle and towards yourself until the second hook fastener comes loose.
14 Installation/Removal of Prescription Lens Carrier The EPS-21 goggle is designed to accept a snap-in prescription lens carrier. It is installed by simply pressing the center portion into the appropriate interface point in the center of the goggles. This is done by positioning the carrier into the goggle and pressing down on the flexible nose bridge until it snaps into place. The carrier is held in place by the two plugs which catch on a bracket inside the goggle. To remove, grasp one end of the carrier and pulling it away from the bracket until it pops out.
