NAHCA Virtual Campus of Care User Guide National Association of Health Care Assistants www.nahcacareforce.org (417)623-6049

Getting Started To start your education in the Virtual Campus of Care you must log in for the first time with your assigned username and the default password. Complete the following steps to begin your learning experience. Logging in for the First time The first step in the first time login process to go to the NAHCA home page located at www.nahcacareforce.org. Once on the home page click on the student login button in the top right corner of the screen, as shown in the image on the right. The next step is to enter in your assigned username (your in-house coach has a list with all of the usernames for your facility) and the default password to log in for the first time. The default password for all new learners is: P@ssword1 Be sure to enter in the default password exactly how it is shown here with: a capital P the @ symbol (hold down the shift button and press the number 2 ) Lowercase ssword after the @ symbol The numeral 1 at the very end, with no spaces 1

Logging in for the First time cont. After your successful login a new screen will pop up that will allow you to change your password to something that is easier for you to remember. Congratulations! You have successfully logged into NVCC for the first time. Navigating the Campus of Care Once you have successfully logged in to the system for the first time you can begin to explore the NAHCA Virtual Campus of Care. This section will outline each area of the system and its functionality. The Dashboard The dashboard is the first page that is displayed immediately upon logging in. From here the learner can navigate to all other areas of the NVCC. Each tile on the dashboard takes the learner to a different place in the system. Resume: The Resume tile quickly takes the learner to the course with the most recent activity. My Courses: The My Courses tile takes the learner to a list of all of their available courses. The list will include all courses that the learner has completed, as well as those they have currently been assigned but haven t yet taken. 2

The Dashboard cont. The dashboard is the first page that is displayed immediately upon logging in. From here the learner can navigate to all other areas of the NVCC. Each tile on the dashboard takes the learner to a different place in the system. Catalog: The Catalog tile shows the list of courses that are available to purchase. Learners in the NVCC have access to all content because their employers have prepaid. Breakdown of a Course Resources: The resources tile is an area that provides helpful guides, links, and tools to facilitate learning. Message Board: The message board tile shows messages from the system regarding changes in course statuses, as well as messages from Professional Development Coaches. Calendar: The calendar tile shows the learner a calendar with the dates of any relevant system events or NAHCA events. The picture below shows an example of a partially completed course in NVCC. The learner can tell which parts of the course are completed by noting the color of each item. Blue items are in progress, green items are completed, and grey items are locked until the prerequisite parts are fulfilled. Looking at the progress bar on the left of the screen is an easy way to tell how much of a course is completed. The bar will move from grey, to blue, to green as the course is finished. 3

Common Course Misunderstandings There are a couple of frequent misunderstandings when it comes to completing a course. This section of the guide will address those concerns. It says I failed my essay immediately after I submitted it, what do I do? Don t worry! The grade will stay as a 0% until the PDC reviews and submits a grade for your response. Please allow one to three business days for the PDC to review and submit a grade for your essay. After the essay is completed for the first time it doesn t need to be submitted again. Simply wait for the PDC to review and enter in a grade for your essay. I have completed the lesson, exam, and essay (if there is one), everything says complete, but I can t access my certificate. What s wrong? The solution to this problem is a simple one. In order to receive a certificate for a course you must complete the lesson, the assessment, AND the Course Evaluation. The evaluation is mandatory, but should only take a minute or two. These evaluations are very important, as they allow us to use our learners suggestions to better our services. In order to access the evaluation, go to the course in question and it will be at the bottom of the page (circled in picture on right). 4

The Drop-down Menu The drop-down menu is a feature located in the topright hand corner of any NVCC screen. Simply click the button (circled on right) to view a fast navigational menu. Many of the same areas that are on the dashboard can be accessed through the drop-down menu. You can navigate to the dashboard, your course list, the course catalog, the resource center, the calendar, your student transcript, and your edit profile page. Most of these areas have already been covered in the guide, but a closer look needs to be taken at editing your profile and viewing your transcript. Editing Profiles/Changing Passwords Click on the edit profile button on the drop-down menu to change profile information or password. In this menu the learner may view their username, enter in a location, or enter in their email. Note: It is strongly encouraged to enter an email address in order to make it easier for the PDCs to contact learners. It is also allows for easy password recovery for learners. The tab above the Edit Your Information page is the change password page. The learner can enter in their current password, and then change it to a more desirable one. 5

Viewing a Learner Transcript Click the transcript button on the dropdown menu to access the learner transcript. The transcript has a list of all courses that have been assigned, as well as the certificates that the learner earns by completing courses. The transcript is also the easiest place to find the number of professional points that the learner has accumulated. The points total can be found at the very bottom of the transcript page in a box called Total educational units. To view a specific certificate, simply click on the name of the completed course under the Your Certificates list. A personalized certificate is generated for every learner for each completed course. The picture on the left shows a sample certificate. The certificate is in a.pdf file format and can be saved or printed at the learner s convenience. To print an entire transcript, the learner should first go to the transcript page. Then scroll down to the very bottom, and click print transcript. The printable version of the transcript includes all courses, statuses of courses, exam grades, completion dates, educational units, and certificates. 6

Communicating with Your Professional Development Coach Communication with a PDC is essential for the growth and development of learners in NVCC. Any questions, concerns, or congratulations should be shared with the PDCs. Below is a list of all the PDCs, their emails, the office phone number, and their extensions. Learners are encouraged to ask questions and form a rapport with their PDC. Office Number: (417)623-6049 Jeff Carter JCarter@nahcacareforce.org Extension: 7017 Jerry Reinke JReinke@nahcacareforce.org Extension: 7014 Donna Adair DAdair@nahcacareforce.org Extension: 7022 PDCs are available to help you with any aspect of the NVCC, including (but not limited to): answering questions about courses or any technical troubles that this guide does not address. When a learner does choose to contact their PDC there are a few things to keep in mind. If emailing a PDC, make sure to include your name and your facility name. If emailing about a specific course or course reset, make sure to include the title of the course as well as the troubles you are having. Try to remember the name of your PDC. While it can be sorted out eventually, it is much faster to email or call your PDC directly, rather than having to go through several people. If a learner doesn t have an email address and they want to contact their PDC through email, they can create a free email address through any email provider (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc.). If the learner is unsure how to go about the account creation of an email address they should refer to the Resource Center in NVCC for the.pdf file Gmail Account Creation Instructions. These instructions are a step-by-step guide to creating a Gmail account and composing an email to send to the PDCs. 7

Technical Troubleshooting While we at NAHCA hope that your learning experience is unaffected by technical difficulties, we also understand that sort of thing happens. This section of the guide will address the most common technical issues that our learners have reported to us and possible solutions for those issues.
