SUMMER COURSE, GLIWICE 2015 How to train your Comau robot? Smarter, faster, easier - Racer Challenge SURVIVAL GUIDE

1. Things that you need in order to survive: Yourself - it s necessary! Passport/ID Personal insurance Any meds that you are using Anything you need for the International Evening (alcohol, something to eat, a flag, a typical song from your country) Pocket money Towel Clothes for themed party Rain clothes A good mood :) A lot of strength 2. What you should send us as soon as you are accepted We need following information: Your telephone number and your e-mail. Arrival date and time. Departure date and time. If you are vegetarian or allergic to something. 3. How to get to Gliwice If you travel by plane: to Warsaw - take a bus to the center of the city, to the railway station, then a train. There are some direct trains from Warsaw to Gliwice. Other trains go first to Katowice where you have to change a train to Gliwice (you buy only one ticket for whole trip Warsaw-Gliwice). Remember that there are only IC and EC trains and they are quite expensive (about 80 PLN one way ticket). I recommend using TLK ones. to Cracow - take a bus to the centre of the city, then a train to Gliwice (comes almost every hour). The price of a train ticket is about 40 PLN or less if you take the slowest train or have a student card. Similar situation as with a journey from Warsaw, some trains go directly to Gliwice, some have stop in Katowice where you have to change a train. You have to ask about that while you will be buying a ticket. to Katowice - here: http://www.katowice-airport.com/pl/index/index you can find the timetable for the buses (access>by bus) from Katowice International Airport to: the centre of Katowice (then you can take a train from Katowice to Gliwice (a direct one) and the timetable is here: http://www.pkp.pl/ or directly to the center of Gliwice.

If you come by train: probably to Cracow or Warsaw - keep travelling by train, it is the fastest way. Take a train to Gliwice (or Katowice then to Gliwice). Trains from Katowice to Gliwice come every half an hour on weekdays and every hour on weekends. There are also a few of them during night. Trip takes about 30 minutes. If you come by bus: you ll probably come to one of the cities in the region of Silesia. Find a railway station. If you come directly to Gliwice, you ll probably come to the old bus station at the other side of the railway station. First go through the bridge to the railway station (about 4 minutes walk). You may also come directly to the bus station located in front of the railway station (about 10 minutes). A taxi to the dormitory should cost less than 20 PLN so ask the driver before if it is OK and don t agree to pay more. Students dorms are quite close to the city center, so after your arrival send us an SMS with a place where you are, then one of organicers will pick you up. 4. Some useful informations: Accommodation: All the participants and organisers will stay at one of students dormitories. The parties will take place mostly in pubs or just outside around the dormitories. The centre of Gliwice is about 10-15 minutes walk from the dormitories. Food: We will provide you with food during the whole event. You will have breakfasts and dinners at the dormitory, and lunches at students canteen. It is typically Polish to have a hot meal for lunch and dinner is similar to breakfast. We will also have a barbecue one evening. The Post: The main post office is open from 8a.m. till 8p.m. on weekdays and from 8a.m. till 1p.m. on Saturdays. The usual price of a stamp (for an international post) is 2,40 PLN. Telephone: There are telephones available at each dorm. If you want to call, you need a phone card. You can buy one at almost every newsagent s and post office. Its price is about 12 PLN for 25 units. It is cheaper to call between 10p.m. and 8a.m. during the week and on weekends. Mobile phones networks: T-Mobile GSM, Plus GSM and Orange are available all around the whole country. To call from abroad you need to use the country code +48. The regional access code is 32, So to phone us from e.g. a railway station you need to dial 32-237-10-30. The emergancy call is 112 (for free). Banks: Almost all banks are situated near the centre of Gliwice, so it is not very difficult to find them. Banks are open from 10a.m. till 6p.m. on weekdays. Cash machines

accept all international cards such as: Visa Electron, Visa, Maestro, MasterCard, PolCard and other popular. You can also pay by card. Currencies: Polish currency is Polish zloty (PLN) consisting of 100 groszy (gr.). There is no problem with exchanging currencies in Poland.
