Acknowledgements Waking Sleeping Beauty The Musical was performed at IMP for Kids on Martha s Vineyard, MA on January 20 & 21, 2012 Setting An Enchanted Kingdom and the nearby Twin City. The Enchanted Past. Time Cast of Characters Mathilda: (Pronounced with the H.) A Magical Klutz The 7 Fairies: A clique of magical fairies. Star, Autumn, Brook, Fern, Ocean, Lily & Summer (the nicest of the fairies) Harold - The Royal Herald: Loves repeating what the King says. The Royal Stove-Toucher: A peasant who touches the stove for the princess. King Mortimer: The King; doesn t want his daughter to be kissed Queen Darling: The Queen; wants only the best for her daughter Princess Aurora: She s got a lot of dollars but she s got no sense. Fauntleroy: The nice Prince. Balderdash: The nice Prince s not-so-nice twin. Townspeople: Joe, Sam, Kelsey, Pat, Hunter a collection of friends in search of a new set of clothes for the party.

SETTING: The Twin Cities Scene 3 AT RISE: enters. What a beautiful day. I wonder how I can ruin it. ( enters.) Hey brother. (In a very sinister manner.) Fauntleroy we meet again. I just saw you at the breakfast table. No. I saw you. I don t even know what that means. Oh you will, dear brother, you will. ( exits.) ( enter with wands the go around in a circle and then try to go through.) BALDERSH Ouch! Hey, watch where you re going with those things! I could ve really gotten hurt. STAR But this is where we re going! AUTUMN You re the person we ve been looking for! You are the One True Love! BROOK

Hey, I am nobody s One True Love, you got that? Nobody even really likes me. FERN We should explain. You see there s a princess at the palace- OCEAN And she s pricked her finger on an enchanted spinning wheel- LILY And now she s under a terrible spell- SUMMER And she can only be saved with a kiss from her One True Love! And you are her One True Love! Wait, wait, wait... this is crazy. I don t even know this girl. Is she pretty? Yes. And she has a kingdom? Yes. Ok, I m in. Hooray! Finally something good is going to happen to Prince Balderdash! ( enters.)

What s going on? Wouldn t you like to know? Who s that? STAR BALERDASH Wouldn t you like to know? I m his brother. We re twins. (Suddenly all and their WANDS fly over to.) Hey, what s the big idea?!? STAR Sorry, Balderdash. I guess your brother is the One True Love of the Princess. AUTUMN Yeah. You both look so much alike our wands must have gotten confused. (To ) I should have known you d find a way to ruin this for me. What did I ruin? What s going on? FERN There s a princess at the palace- OCEAN And she s pricked her finger on an enchanted spinning wheel- LILY And now she s under a terrible spell-

SUMMER And she can only be saved with a kiss from her One True Love! And you are her One True Love. You mean I get to help a damsel in distress? Okay, I m in. Hooray! This isn t fair! Fauntleroy always gets everything! Nice guys are supposed to finish last! I m sorry, Balderdash. Apology not accepted! Mark my words, Fauntleroy: this is not the end of this. I will have my revenge and yes, oh yes, it will be sweet BROOK Let me guess, he s the evil twin? I prefer to call him the not-so-nice one. SONG: MEAN & EVIL (SPOKEN) IF NICE GUYS FINISH LAST WHY DOES HE ALWAYS WIN? I MEAN, COME ON! (SINGING) THEY HAVE THE GALL TO CALL ME EVIL. EVIL! MEAN AND EVIL! THEY TREAT ME LIKE I AM THE BAD GUY

IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. HEY! THEY HAVE THE GALL TO CALL ME EVIL. EVIL! MEAN AND EVIL! BUT REALLY I AM JUST A LITTLE BIT MISUNDERSTOOD. MISUNDERSTOOD. I ONLY LOOK SO BAD BECAUSE MY BROTHER LOOKS SO- GOOD. HE LOOKS SO- GOOD! Aaah, Aaah, Oooh. IT DOESN T SEEM TO MATTER WHAT I DO OR SAY. MEAN AND EVIL! THEY NEVER CHANGE THEIR POINT OF VIEW.
