www.sylvania.com HF²DISPLAYStick & Extrusion INSTALLATION GUIDE The purpose of this document is to show how SYLVANIA HF²DISPLAYStick Modules, Extrusions and the various end mounting options mechanically and electrically connect together to form a complete system. When installed as instructed this complete system complies as a UL 2108 Listed system. WARNING: ONLY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL SHOULD PERFORM INSTALLATION TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK OR COMPONENT DAMAGE, DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE ATTEMPTING INSTALLATION OF THE POWER SUPPLIES AND/OR MODULES. Failure to install the power supplies and/or LED modules in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC), all applicable Federal, State and local electric codes as well as the specific Underwriter s Laboratories (UL) safety standards for the installation, location and application may cause serious personal injury, death, property damage and/or product malfunction. These instructions are guidelines for installation of LED modules and power supplies. Installation requirements may vary depending on the application. Licensed electricians should provide all installation services for connection for both primary and secondary (input/output) of the power supplies. Identification and Warnings of Safety Hazards In accordance with ANSI Z535.4-2002 the following system of identifying the severity of the hazards associated with the products is used: DANGER : Imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. WARNING : Potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. CAUTION : Potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury or property damage. Also used to alert against unsafe practices. IGNORING A HAZARD WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY. CAUTION: To prevent the risk of fire, do not install in a compartment smaller than 700mm (27 ½ in.) by 45mm (1 ¾ in.) by 900mm (35 7/16 in.) LED090 1

Board to Board Connectors may be optionally installed * Extrusions may require modification to fit a particular case size. For a list of standard case sizes and the extrusion saw cut lengths to fit those standard sizes, reference Section 1.8 Mounting Constraints Option. If required, the responsible party shall ensure that all saw cuts are clean and perpendicular thereby ensuring that specified mounting options properly fit the extrusion. 1.3 Tools Required: Phillips Screwdriver Needle Nose Pliers Wire Cutters (or means to cut tie wrap) Tape Measure Level Eye Protection 1.4 LED Module Installation Instructions: FIGURE 3: LED Module Installation Diagram 1.4.1. Select the correct number of HF²DISPLAYStick Modules for the particular Extrusion length: 4 (L)ong Modules per 4 foot Extrusion (NAED #70275) 5 (L)ong Modules per 5 foot Extrusion (NAED #70276) 6 (L)ong Modules per 6 foot Extrusion (NAED #70277) (S)hort Modules may be installed in the extrusion as well, but no more than one short module can be installed in a single specified extrusion. 1.4.2 Insert individual HF²DISPLAYStick Modules into the Module Mounting Channel located in the Extrusion. (Ref. Figure 3) 1.4.3 When connecting multiple Modules, insert the Male Connector at the end of one Module into the Female Connector of the next module until a positive connection is made. (Ref. Figure 3) 1.4.4 Referencing step 1.4.1, repeat until the correct number of HF²DISPLAYStick Modules have been inserted into the Extrusion. 1.4 Spring End Mounting Option: 3 FIGURE 4: Spring End Mounting Configuration
1.5.1. Mount End Caps (Figure 1, Item 10) to each end of the Extrusion using the supplied screws (Item 9). 1.5.2. Cut the tie wrap which holds the Hairpin Cotter Pin (Item 6) to the Spring. Remove and discard the tie wrap. 1.5.3. Pull Hairpin Cotter Pin and place to the side. 1.5.4. Insert one Spring End Assembly over an end of the Extrusion and align the Spring Guide Rod thru the hole in the End Cap. 1.5.5. Replace the Hairpin Cotter Pin. 1.5.6. Repeat these same steps for the opposite end of the Extrusion. 1.5.7. Note: The exposed input connector on the last HF²DISPLAYStick Module in the series must be oriented where the Down Tube Fitting (Item 7) will be placed and connection to the power supply will be made. Connect the LED Module Input wiring harness to this exposed connector and route the harness cable thru the hole in the Spring End Assembly where the Down Tube Fitting (Item 7) will be placed. 1.5.8. Slide the Down Tube Fitting over the Input Wiring Harness and screw in place. Route the Input Wiring Cable thru the Down Tube, if used, and secure in place with the Down Tube Fitting set screws. 1.5.9. For installation into the case, compress both Spring End Assembly to desired length, place into position and release. 1.6 Alternative Spring End Mounting Option: FIGURE 5: Alternative Spring End Mounting Configuration 1.6.1. Repeat all the steps listed in Section 1.5 with the exception that one Spring End Assembly is left off one end of the Extrusion. Place a Spring End Pad (Figure 1, Item 8) on the End Cap at that end. 1.7 L Bracket End Mounting Option: FIGURE 6: L-Bracket End Mounting Configuration 4
1.7.1. Mount an L Bracket End Assembly (Figure 2) to each end of the Extrusion using the supplied screws (Item 4). 1.7.2. Secure complete Assembly into the desired position by screwing two #10 or two M4 screws (supplied by others) thru the holes provided in the Right Angle Mounting Bracket on the L Bracket Assembly. 1.7.3. Connect the wiring harness connector to the Module and route the harness cable thru the Down Tube Fitting (Item 1) and Down Tube (optional) to power supply. 1.8 Mounting Constraints Option: FIGURE 7: Free/Compressed Length Detail ( Free Length is defined as the overall length of the complete assembly with the springs at rest.) 2.0 ELECTRICAL INSTRUCTIONS 2.1 General Instructions: For a UL2108 Code compliant installation, the HF²DISPLAYStick and Extrusion must be installed with an appropriate UL listed Class 2 power supply. If additional wiring becomes necessary, it is the responsibility of the installer to provide this wiring and ensure that the wiring meets all applicable Class 2 requirements as pertains to the installation. 2.2 Power Supplies: 2.2.1 Ensure Power Supply has adequate power to operate the load. 2.2.2 Observe correct electrical polarity. Incorrect polarity may destroy the module. 2.2.3 To accurately determine maximum LED Load, the de rating criteria listed in Application Note Determine the Maximum LED Load on the Constant Voltage Power Supplies # LED026 must be factored in. 2.2.4 To determine remote wiring distances, reference the Application Note Remote Wiring Distances for LED Power Supplies. 2.3 HF²DISPLAYStick Wiring Diagram: FIGURE 8: Wiring Diagram Note: 1. The maximum number of (L)ong modules that can be connected in a single run is 6. 2. The middle white cable on the Input Connector should not be connected to the power supply. Ensure this white cable is should be properly terminated. 3. No more than one short module can be used with a SYLVANIA specified extrusion. 3.0 PRODUCT RELATED INFORMATION: Ordering Abbreviation Description 71232 HF2DISPLAYStick 942S 5.6" LED Module, 7 W, 248 lm, 90 CRI 70227 HF2DISPLAYStick 942L 11.4" LED Module, 16 W, 495 lm, 90 CRI 6
