CELEBRATION OF AZADI 70-YAAD KARO KURBANI (FREEDOM FORTNIGHT) 9 th August 2016 To 23 rd August 2016

1. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS: The 70 th Independence Day of the Nation was celebrated on 15 th of August 2016 with great enthusiasm and energy in front of Administrative Block at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur. The Event sees the gathering among the Faculty, Students, Technical and Non-Technical Staff of the Institute. (Flag Hoisting ceremony) The event started with Flag hoisting ceremony by the Chief Guest, Campus Incharge accompanied by Registrar, Dean (Student Welfare) and Coordinator (Cultural Club) followed by National Anthem and parade by the volunteers OF National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.), National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) and Security Guards of the campus.

2. Patriotic Songs - Singing Competition A patriotic song singing competition was organized on the afternoon of 15 th August 2016 among the students on the eve of Independence Day. Different patriotic songs were sung by the students remembering our Nation s martyrs. 1 st Prize was awarded to Mr. Harish who sung a melodious patriotic song Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo that made audience realize the sacrifices of our martyrs for the motherland.

2 nd prize was awarded jointly to Mr. Aditya and Mr. Komal for duet song Khabbon ke Parindey which cherished the admosphere of freedom in the campus. 3rd Prize was awarded for a song from the Movie lakshya Lakshay ko har haal me paana hai that reminds us of the dedication with which our army is protecting the border of our country.

Performance By Literacy Mission Kids N.I.T Hamirpur: Literacy mission that helps the financially weak children to realize the dreams of their life by helping them in educaiton and enabling them to glow up socially. A group of kids performed Mera karma tu mera dharma tu that was appreciated with a huge round of applause.

Tree Plantation at NIT Campus The faculty and students including NSS volunteers carried out tree plantation on 15 th of August 2016 followed by the anti-polyether campaign near Shiva Meditation Centre, NIT Hamirpur.

ESSAY AND POEM WRITING COMPETION An essay and poem writing competition was organized on 22 nd August 2016 at 5 P.M. in the seminar hall of ECE Dept. to celebrate the freedom fortnight and Aazadi 70 Yaad Karo Kurbani at NIT Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Aimed at memorising and honouring the contributions and sacrifices of our beloved martyrs, the event was organized under the expert guidance of Coordinator SPICMACAY and Co-coordinator (Cultural Activities). The event witnessed participation from around 30 students from all branches as they turned up with enthusiasm to showcase their literary and creative skills. The event began with an introductory speech by the Coordinator SPICMACAY. One hour was allotted to all the participants to complete their essay or poem on one of the topics: Independence Day, Freedom of India or Aazadi 70 Yaad Karo Kurbani.

There were a large number of quality and thought provoking essays and poems but finally, the following were emerged the winners in their categories: Essays: Poems: 1. Ankit Sachan (14MI545) 2. Dixita Vashishtha (13401) 3. Aditya Singh Bisht (14370), SaurabhYadav (IITU15201) jointly. 1. Kriti Ksuhwaha (14463) 2. Gautam Prakash (15177) 3. Juhi Rani Verma (16M605), Komal Mehra(15MI413) jointly. The event was a resounding success and went a long way in invoking feelings of patriotism and nationalism among the students of the Institute.

FREEDOM RUN Remembering the great souls who sacrificed their lives to lay down the path to the Independence of our sovereign land, a freedom run was organized by the sports committee of NIT Hamirpur. The event witnessed mass participation from the students and faculty members of the campus. The run was inaugurated at 5 PM on 22 nd August 2016 by the Dean (Student Welfare) in the presence of sports Coordinator and Sports officer NIT Hamirpur. As many as 100 participants including boys and girls graced the event with their presence.

The run began from the ground of NIT Hamirpur toward gate No.1 and back. The participants displayed great endurance and energy which was fuelled by the patriotism amongst everyone present. Following students got 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place respectively: Mr. Devender Kumar (Roll No. 13139), Mr. Pankaj Deol (Roll No. 13329) and Mr. Aditya Saklani (Roll No. 15233) who emerged the winners among the boys while following girls students got 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place respectively: Ms. Vidisha Barwal (Roll No. 13601), Ms. Sunakshi Tejwani (Roll No. 14561), Ms. Sneh Lata Soreng (Roll No. 14628) and Ms. Kiran Patidar (Roll No. 14644) who were the winners among girls participants.

MASS RECITATION OF NATIONAL ANTHEM BY STUDENTS On the terminal day of Fortnight Celebrations, mass recitation of National Anthem by the students of the NIT, Hamirpur was held at 11 AM (Tuesday) on 23rd August 2016. The freedom fortnight celebrations were a grand success enuntiating and sensitizing the technocrats about the Kurbanis made by our beloved martyrs.
