ALP STRIKER NAMED IN NIIGATA By : Piet Sinke Today a milestone was reached by ALP Maritime Services, with the naming ceremony and christening of the ALP STRIKER the first of a series of 4 state-ofthe-art SX-157 Ulstein Design ultra-long distance towing and anchor handling vessels with a bollard pull 300+ tons at the Niigata Shipyard in Niigata (Japan) The ALP STRIKER and ALP DEFENDER are the first two to be delivered to be followed by the ALP SWEEPER and ALP KEEPER, The 4 units are part of the the ALP Future Class AHTS the ALP STRIKER was launched into her element 19 October 2015 CLICK at the photo right to see the launch! after the launch the 88.9 mtr long and 21 mtr width ALP STRIKER was moored alongside at the yard for the final outfitting the AHTS with a deadweight of 4250 ton are very impressive, when seeing them for the first time like me when arriving at the Niigata Yard and designed by ULSTEIN which also delivered the main component, such as the ROLLS-ROYCE towing and anchorhandling winch and the fully integrated DP II system the ALP Future class is having a service speed of 13 knots and a top speed of 19 knots and having a fuel capacity of 3200m3 HFO and 340 m3 MGO which capacity is sufficient for non-stop Trans-Atlantic/Indian, Pacific Ocean towing operations without fuel calls. The units are equipped with dynamic positioning capability (DP II) allowing ultra-long distance towing, offshore installation and decommissioning of large floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units, floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) units and floating drill rigs The ALP Future Class is having the DNV Classifications +1A1, Offshore Service Vessel+, Anchorhandling, Towing, E0, SF, Iceclass 1B, FiFi II, TMON, BIS, DYNPOS-AUTR, Naut-OSV(A), Clean Design, COMF-V(3), BWM-T, Recyclable Distribution : daily to 34.000+ active addresses 13-05-2016 Page 3

In the engineroom 4 MAK main engines are installed with a total output of 18.000 Kw (24.400 BHP) by 600 RPM, which engines are driving 2 CPP 5000 mm propellers in Nozzles, beside the main thrusters the vessel is equipped with 2 tunnel thrusters van 1500 kw in de bow and 2 tunnel thrusters of 1500 kw in the stern, the required power onboard the vessel and for the thrusters are delivered by 3 auxilary generator sets of 940 ekw each and 2 installed shaft generators driven from the main reduction gear of with an output of 3150 ekw each at 1200 RPM as seen on the right top When running on 2 engines only the ALP FUTURE class still provides an impressive 170 tonnes bollard pull which, in combination with her X-bow hull characteristics, her DP II Notation, very large bunker fuel capacity outclasses today s typical long distance towing vessels, with less fuel consumption The installed towing winch is a ROLLS ROYCE model SL400-3T with a speed of 0-13 m/min by 402 ton pullforce, the winch is having 3 drums from which 2 drums are the main towing winch and secondary towing winch both with a break capacity of 675 tonnes at the first layer and the drums are Distribution : daily to 34.000+ active addresses 13-05-2016 Page 4

capable to store 2510 mtr of 86 mm towing wire in addition the 3 rd drum is the storage drum which is having the same capacity as the above mentioned drums beside this 3 drum winch the ALP Future class is equipped with 2 large storage reels from which one is having 2 compartments with capacity of 2630 & 620 mtr 86 mm wire and the second reel with 3 compartments is capable to store 1115 mtr 86 mm wire each. The winches are remote controlled from the bridge furthermore at the aft/work deck an heavy duty sternroller with diameter of 4000mm and length 5600 mm with a SWL of 650 tonnes is installed, 2 ROLLS ROYCE gog winches with a pull of 30 tons by a speed upto 12 m/min 2 hydraulic capstans 13,2 tons pull upto 10 mtr/min 1 ROLLS ROYCE 15 tons tugger winch with speed upto 30 m/min 2 sets of towing pins designed for horizontal locking of wire with a SWL of 300 tonnes 1 set of hydraulic raised/lowered vertical guide towing pins (pop up) with SWL of 300 tonnes and 2 600 ton SWL Karmforks with variable inserts upto 120mm chain THE WORKDECK IS EQUIPPED WITH A LANKHORST RECYCLED PLASTIC DECK COVER INSTEAD OF WOOD The ALP STRIKER is the first offshore vessel in the world which is having a recycled plastic KLP Deck Cover workdeck instead of the traditional wooden deck cover, which is saving for this vessel around 30 trees, also plastic is installed in the 506 m3 chainlocker, by using recycled plastic instead of wood, Lankhorst can offer high quality products and help support the environment. The Lankhorst products do not rot or splinter, are resistant to most chemicals, oil, solvents, UV, (salt) water, weather and will last significantly longer than any type of wood and are fully recyclable. Whether it s for a new build vessel or a ship-deck renovation project, KLP Deck Covers offer you the best solution. Practical tests have Distribution : daily to 34.000+ active addresses 13-05-2016 Page 5

proven that, due to the higher friction opposed to hardwood (specifically in wet conditions), it will contribute to a saver workenvironment for the crew. KLP Deck Covers are more sustainable and effective solution to protect your vessel during towing and anchor handling operations Advantages of KLP No rotting, no splintering High friction in wet conditions Stiff and maintenance free UV, water and weather resistant Save and easy to process Environmentally friendly and recyclable Stable material and product properties The ALP FUTURE class is having a free deck space of 550m2 with a capacity of 2400 tonnes cargo 10 t/m2 max ALP is the specialist in the field of Ocean Towing, Offshore positioning and mooring of floating platforms, Heavy Transport and Salvage operations.alp s management team, with decades of hands-on experience in the most complex and largest towing, transport and installation projects, are ready to serve ALP s worldwide clients with the finest equipment that the maritime towing and transport industry has to offer; World-wide ocean towage, any distance Positioning and hook-up of floating installations to pre-laid mooring systems Anchoring of installations and floating objects Disconnecting and mooring retrieval as part of repositioning or decommissioning operations Adhering to the highest safety and environmental standards Distribution : daily to 34.000+ active addresses 13-05-2016 Page 6

ALP has a fleet of ten vessels at its disposal, ranging from 200 to 306 tonnes bollard pull. In a market where objects become larger and environmental and financial exposure during a necessary transport is increasing, we identified a need for new types and more advanced offshore vessels. ALP is leading the industry in adapting to this need of our clients. We invested in modern high-horsepower DP II towing vessels, meeting our client s present and future need. Our equipment offers: Stronger and larger towing vessels to match and enable increase in size of FPSO s, FLNG s and similar floating installations Reliability, since transport to site and installation on site is a key shackle in the chain leading to project success Independency and reliability for working in remote areas Lower overall costs by eliminating the need for additional (installation, heading control, anchor handling) vessels, Higher transit speeds and lower fuel consumption. Utmost safety, achieved by redundancy, sea behavior characteristics, vessel s quality of officers and crew, equipment and outfitting and excellent live-on-board standards for the crew Fully independent main engines with auxiliaries. Dual role capacity for towing and anchor handling operations, offering considerable project savings All commercial and ship-management duties are performed from ALP s Rotterdam Head-Quarters. Maintaining all management tasks internal ensures that the fleet is maintained according to the highest industry standards, insisted on by ALP s Board and Shareholders.
